Does it really matter where in the world they were made? There still 90% made by ROBOTS engineered by TOYOTA (all scientist involved may not be Japanese but thats another story). Remember to check your Jordans, they were made in China happywink:

I read somewhere that GM and Toyota got together and created the Corolla/Metro. Both are one in the same, but both were marketed under different makes.

You know that could be true, but i can't believe that they would actually ship the celicas here from japan, the cost of that would be huge, and if they do that why don't we get the t.v. center, or the blacked out headlights?
it is true...

and the cost is not huge at all, I don't remember how much it is...but that's why it's not imported here like crazy..the dealers are the ones who gotta pay for it, so why stock up on something that doesn't sell like crazy?? thumbsup

the cost is big. why do you thinka gts that only has 180 horses and is a 4 cylinder BASES at 24k??? part of the cost is because you have to ship it--and CONSUMERS pick up the cost--not the dealer (the dealer will not lose $$, as long as there is a demand for a product, the consumer will eat all costs associated with the product) thumbsup

This really pisses me off becasue i don't understand why we don't get the blacked out headlights or the center console with the t.v. monitor. So stephen you were apperantly right. iamstfu

We don't get those options 'cuz they'll sky rocket the price tag. Not too many people are willing to pay for those options, or want those options.

as isaac said, come to socal and see these trucks full of cars. imported. as for the celica, i think they dont do nothing to it here. IMO, toyota produces the cars in US that sell the most. why you say? PROFIT! as you can see there are so few celicas in toyota dealerships because they are imported. wonder why they dont promote it that much? cause they dont have a lot of it and they dont have much profit of it, so they dont spend more money advertising it. celica is an expensive car, and importing it makes it more expensive, but the sellers cant skyrocket the price more than a limit because of its class. meaning their profit is not as much as their other models. as for the other cars, lets say camry. its the best selling car in US. so how can they make more money? bring the parts and assemble them here. they end up saving maybe a $1,000 on each and they can make $1,000 extra when they sell it for the same price. correct me if im wrong

we don't get those options because there is not enough market (demand) for them. options are determined by profitability (obviously)...if toyota offers an option that most likely will not sell (and therefore not be worth the time & effort to support the part) then they won't offer it as an option.

for example, u.s. spec celicas do not have a window auto-up (just an auto-down) this is because most americans do not care to have an auto up so why would toyota spend time & money for an option that won't increase sales?

in europe, however...window auto-up IS in demand...and having that option on the celica makes it more attractive and DOES increase sales (therefore, it's offered) thumbsup

those options are not included, because the cost of the car would be $28 or $29K

who would pay that for a 180hp car?

No one.

exactly. no demand = no sales = toyota not happy. there is no demand for a $30k car pushing 180 horses out of a low-displacement 4-cylinder engine.

TV Center Console? Not all Celicas in Japan have those either, it's an option there I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong here. Ever noticed how we don't get the Digital Climate Control and all that? I believe it's because they took those options off to cut down the price of the Celica to pay for all the shipping and stuff...again, correct me if I'm wrong.
