Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior 19 inch rims with 40 profile tyres

I almost can't lower my celica anything at all. And fitting 19 inch rims (as I will) with out lowering the car any, will look really bad.

So, I'm thinking about using 40 profile tyres on the 19's instead of 35 profile (as it should be) so the car will
sit higher off the ground. Then lower it about 20mm front and 30mm rear.

But will 19's with 40 profile fit? Will there be enough room between the front/back of the fender(s) and the wheels?
Anyone with 19's and 35 (or, even better, 40 profile) that can give an educated guess?

And does 8.5x19" with a 30 offset fit front & back? Or does anyone know any wider 19's that'll fit?

u can't use 40 series on 19s on our cars...will scrap like crazy!!!

Also a 40's will really throw off your odometer. You gotta go with a 35, but if you plan on using your celi as a daily driver be prepared to replace your tires when they blowout after you hit a pothole. It's inevidatable that you'll hit a pothole, everyone does They will also add a lot of rotating mass, so you might want to look into upgrading your brakes. It's safer to stick with 18's & a 40 series side wall, it'll fill up the wheel well real nice.

I have 19x8.5 w/ 235/35 and theres about a 1/2 clearance from right to left. There isnt a height issue, theres more than enough room for that w/ a 40 its the side to side thats the prob. and I also have a 1.2in drop

For everyday driving, 19's just aren't practical on a celica IMO. Go with 18's or 17's.

I had 19's with 35 profile on my '98 golf. Logically I should have 20's on my celica

y cant you just lower ur car more and get 18s or somthing?

My driveway doesn't allow me to lower the car enough to make big rims with the correct tires look "that good". I won't be able to lower it enough to close the gap that'll be between the wheel arches and the tire.

Thought about air/hydraulics - but living in norway, the
price for the parts and installation, together with the
total lack of anyone with any experience, makes it too impractical. So filling up the arches with too big wheels seems to be the only solution.

I've been thinking about 18's aswell. www.german-wheels.com [german-wheels.com] (schmidt wheels) sells some good looking 3 piece 18" rims, with 8.5x18 up front and 9.5x18" (or something wild like that) on the rear. But once you've had 19's, you don't want to go back to 18's again and, in my opinion, the best size for the celica's big arches are 19's.

I think I'll have to find a store with 19 inch tyres with 40 profile in stock, so I can put them up against the car and see if it'll fit...

Downsize your rims.

Rims that big belong on Bling Bling Escalades. Not on Celicas. You'll save yourself some money by seeing those rims to someone else and getting cheaper tires in the process. 17's are ideal.

So just a thought, but as far as i know the widest wheel that will fit the celica (with a front wheel drive offset)is 8" wide. Could be wrong... does anyone have wider then that?

Guess it all comes down to your own personal taste. For me, 17's are for golf mk2's, polo's...small cars like that. Escalades? Needs 20's...atleast! :-)

And I'm not trying to put anyone down. Get whatever you like. If you like 17's, get them.

Schmidt wheels sells 9x18 for the front and 9 or 9.5x18's for the back wheels. I don't understand what offset these should have tho. Check the page yourself, if you're interested:
