its the motor that all MR2 turbo's had, and all trac's had
its a inline 4 thats turbo'd

it comes in 3 generations

3rd gen has 265 hp and previous gen's had less

the motor responds well to mods and is capable of handleing high boost... plus there is a lot of aftermarket for it.

its kinda like the 2jz but for celica's and mr2's.

There was at one point in time a celica all trac with a stock 3s-gte block and crank (everything else was different) that produced 1200hp at 80 (yes 80) psi of boost. That car still holds the record for the pikes peak climb.

Yup The 3sgte is a Special motor. Its one of the 3 motors toyota came out that kicked ass. it used to come in the 6th gen celicas had like 235-250 stock hp with AWD. yea to bad they arnt bringing it back. damn emission laws.

I think they will come back out with the 'next gen' 3sgte with around 300hp stock. Only reason i'm saying this is, toyota has to know they are lacking the performance the sti and evo have. I'm betting, if toyota put a 3sgte engine, and the next gen celica looks sweet...a lot of people will be happy and not go with the evo and sti because the celica would look great...and perform great.

2jz <<<<<<<<<<<<< 3s. mentioning both in the same sentance should not be done! http://www.ds-r.com/modules.php?name=Team_Profile check there, a guy on the team is building one and it lists his mods. it's still being built but should be a monster once it's done. look for a thread when it's complete wink

i was gonna ask few questions about 3s-gte also so here it goes:
1. wut tranny you have to put with 3s-gte? the one that comes with the engine from the mr2?
2. is it really hard to fit the 3rd generation 3s-gte under a 7th generation celicas hood? i heard second one fits perfect
3. do you have to change anything other than the tranny and engine? is it going to be FWD or RWD?
4. is a 3rd generation 3s-gte engine rare? is it reliable? how much does it usually cost with fair miles on it (40,000miles). how much does the tranny cost if you need to have one?
5. it doesnt have lift right?
6. does the swap really cost 10,000$? is a 3rd generation 3s-gte doing well on a 7th generation celica or is it giving problems?
7. anyone has pictures of the engine bay of a 3sgte? does the price you guys say (10,000$?) with the turbo kit on or turbo should be bought separately?

thanx

1. you can use the tranny out of the MR-2 turbo, or there is also a 6spd tranny available that mates with the 3sgte

2. i doubt that if you get the right hook ups that a 3sgte swap will cost 10k now that someone's already done it, the guinea pig is always the most expensive because of the trial and error period

3. you can find a 3s-gte used with around 20k miles on it for $1500, or a rebuilt one for between $2500 and $4000

Its definately a hot engine. However for the price i would almost rather have a new car you know. Just get an older mr-2 for about 10-12 grand. They actually used the 3s in racing in Japan in Supras because it is so much lighter and smaller. It allowed them to move the CG way back, have lighter weight and still meet the hp restrictions that were often 500 hp. I think now they use v-8s though.
