sup people i got a big question. i drive a Celice GT, manual, and my only mod as of now is a TRD exhaust with GTS piping. I have this friend that drives an SE-R Spev-V and talks a lot of trash. We raced when he was stock and i lost to him, but not bad, my front tire was at his back tire, but now he got a RD Injen CAI and he beats me prety easy now! So wat mods would i need to at least even it out????? confused confused

It will be hard...spec Vs are quick mofos... but get intake, and headers...they will help you out. turbo too but that is expensive..hope this helps

Spec Vs aren't slow at all. Smartie...you've driven one a few times, there was like four of us in the car and it still hauled ass. My advice too would be to pick up some bolt-ons but there's a lot you can do as far as weight reduction goes so pull out your backseats next time you race him.

Word, Spec V is an awesome car with lots of pull, especially in the lower end, which in most short races is where you want it. Like Stephen said try a few bolt ons like intake or try some weight reduction like a Carbon Fiber hood, which also looks super tight. Where the Celica is gonna win out is with style and also handling. Ask him to race you through some S curves, you've probably got a better chance there, especially if you know how far you can push your car through the turns.

I'd still work on the quarter mile. Unfortunately the Spec V has a few things that make it a killer handling machine too...Helical limited-slip differential
Front: Independent MacPherson strut with coil springs
Stabilizer bar
Strut tower brace
(Sport-tuned to different levels on SE-R and SE-RSpec V
Rear: Multi-link Beam
Stabilizer bar

I'm not saying the Celica can't handle but the Spec V got hooked up good by Nissan and it's got the raw power (Torque) to pull out of the corners if you screw up

Get a Zex Nitrous Kit. Not only is it more safe then NoS and NX, but its also a great kit. Best bang for your buck when it comes to modding a car.

This would probably be the easiest and cheapest way. But i would also say intake, headers, short shifter for quicker shifts, pullies.

Yup and Nitrous is the most fun of any mod. (from what I hear)

The GTS smokes the SE-R, one of my friend has a GTS manual with TRD exhaust and Injen CAI and he beats the SE-R by 2 cars maybe, and if they keep going the Celica just keeps pulling away. Also my GT is prety fast compared to all the Celica GT's down here were i live, i have raced plenty of Celica GT's with more mods than me and i still beat them at 1/4 and so forth. I think i'll get the intake and then get a ZEX kit, thanks thumbsup

ditto.

some of the more cheaper 'mods' is weight savings (free)--and it helps a LOT, especially the backseat.

If you really want to beat him at a race you can rub his face in. Scope out some circuit races around town and pick one that you know really well that he doesn't. And you can smoke him without the mods and brag that you are a better driver! If anything, i'd pick up the intake and a set of headers.

Knowing the path and choosing the path are two different things.

I raced a Stock Spec-V with my old car (Focus ZX3) and I beat him up until 60 mph. Then he ruled me. He also let me drive it. I thought it handled like crap.. The front wheels would always slide out while trying to enter a turn... I think that is called torque steer... Oh, and I hate that gear box...anoying beyond all reason...

I am going to race a different Spec-V any day now. He has Quite a bit done to it though...and all I have is a CAI. However, I remain optomistic.

Yes yes, SE-Rs handle like crap, and the gearbox it is UGLY. I've beat him on a circuit race around all of my city at like 3:00 in the morning but a DAMN Cooper S beat us! angry

This is seriously white trash, but you can buy 2 used 195/50/15 tires and put them on your front stock GT steelies (some lighter wheels would be even better if you have some). The smaller tire has the same effect as lowering your gear ratio and making the car quicker. It also has the effect of people pointing and laughing so I wouldn't roll around that way for long. rofl

Think so, the Spec V has about 160 HP. the celica is lighter and has more power, a stock spec V would ge owned.

Still a cool car though, It was one of the cars I was looking into.
