Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior Hood pins...Yes or NO?

I'm ordering the Vis Invader hood, and am not sure whether or not to get hood pins. What exactly do they do? I've heard that there's a chance the hood might fly off at high speeds? Is this true, or BS? I don't really like the look of them on the hood, and didn't want to get them if it's not necessary...Any help would be great

VIS claims they are not necessary and judging by the fit of my hood and how securely it latches I have decided not to get any for my Invader hood right now. It's up to you really...I've driven on the highway a lot with my new hood and haven't felt in any danger but hoodpins are a lot cheaper than the damage if something did happen.

they look cool to on some cars

i would put them on... but powdercoat them black first.

its safer, cheap insurance and kinda intimidating.

does the VIS hood have the stock latch like Fiber Images hood?

get the hood pins...
don't regret it later on.

..some riceboys over here put them on their stock hoods...make em look like they street race at high speeds..lol

Amen. You can get them powder coated like someone already suggested so they aren't as visible. Or just buy some black or gm colored ones.. do a search, you'll find some.

Anyone with a carbon fiber hood should get hoodpins.

I like the way they look. It's supposted to be an insurance thing as mentioned above. I say get em!

Get hood-locks, much better, just a small plate with a lock in it. That's what I ordered with my hood, hope it comes in nexct week

yea i would get hood locks...i just ordered my invader hood too and im looking for some black or gm locks rite now...better to spend the extra 20 bucks now then a shizload later when the hood flies off and smashes ur windshield or urself later on down the line

I had a VIS hood. Never had hood pins, never had any problems either.

just get them...to me ppl that dont have them and have a carbon fiber hood r ricers...dont know why

I have vis carbon fiber hood never had any problems w/out pins so if you dont like the look don't put them on. I bought a set too but never used them.
