I dont know why they're designed like that. my nubs broke off when i painted the engine plastics. The screws still work. its fine.

Don't worry about them much, you got two other Metal screws keeping the plastic down. I had to snap them when I cleaned the top end out. Threw them away. *ndy

Grab the inner tab and unscrew them. I've taken mine off at least 6 times and have never broke them.
