So there were some posts awhile back asking about the trial and brashboy stoker kits for the 2zz. I found these answers on the club celica forum. Thanks to those on club celica for letting me gank these. Hope this helps folk.

Scott at TRIAL responded . . . .

Hi,

I have a few questions.

Does the 3zz internals kit for the Celica Stroker increase the displacement of the engine?

Yes, it becomes a 2 liter engine.

Is it possible to run a 13:7:1 compression on 93 octane gas? If so does the 3zz internals kit come with the stock compression pistons?

Weve never tried it on 93 octane so we dont know for sure. The kit comes with modified stock pistons.

What exactly does the valve kit do?

The stock valves for the 2zz engine are very weak and bend when too much time is spent in the 7300+ rpm range. The valves in the kit are stronger.

Does this engine use the VVTL-i like the 2zz ? At what point does lift engage? What is the redline?

When the engine is balanced, the redline is 8500, I believe. The lift can be set at any point. I think it is set at 6300.

Can the power FC be used to adjust when lift engages and what the redline is on a 2zz (and if the 3zz has VVTL-i, in the 3zz) engine?

Yes.

Can aftermarket parts that work on the 2zz (like a cold air intake, exhaust system, headers, pulleys etc . . ) work in the 3zz?

The parts you mentioned can all be used.

------
The guys at BRASH BOY said . . .

What is the compression ratio of the 2,000cc kit's pistons?

Compression Ratio, 1:13.2

Is a Power FC or other kind of fuel controller needed to readjust fuel, or does this kit run normally without modifications?

Only Power FC, don't need other controller units. (no modifications)

Can the 2,000cc kit work on 93 octane pump gas?

No problem

What is the power output (horsepower and torque) of this kit, to the wheels (not to the crank)?

horsepower 235 hp, torque 23k (So powerful)

Best Regards,
Brash Boy, CHIBA

Also, I talked to the guys at TRD. They said their exhaust manifold (header) was designed for high compression (13:1) race applications, which is why it makes such low gains on our 11:5 celica GTS.

75hp seems awful high for a little displacement... but i dunno for sure.

i am a skeptic

Not gt, gts. The increase in power is a result of increased displacement plus an increase in compression. It requires the addition of a Power Fc so that addition adds power too.

with the 13:1 compression, can you count slapping on a turbo out of the equation?

hey i got a question...in order to use the border kit...do you have to bored theengine or cna you just buy the stroker kit n put it in...replacin the stock internals without havin to bored it out?

far as I know, yes, you just install the kit, it is very costly and dangerout to overbore the 2zz (due to it's aluminum construction and metal-matrix cylinder sleeves.) the kits are "Stroker" kits, in other words, they increase the stroke to increase displacement. the pistons are shorter and the connecting rods are longer, The crank has also been redesigned, the bore remains stock, it's the rotating internals that increse displacement.

Anyways, You can't increase displacement past those numbers really, anything more would require retooling the block, if you're looking to go this route, it can be done, but only by a qualified shop. talk to the guys at monkeywrench racing about this. Lots of shops won't work over out blocks because the MMC liners chew the hell out of their bits (which shows how strong our sleeves are to begin with!)

I would love to go with a brash boy stroker kit (it's available for autos, too!), as well as a trial Valve kit. this would make for a potent, pump-gas N/A car. but I'd rather keep the stock compression, to keep it street legal (unless brash boys kit will work w/stock ECU and race gas, of course, in which case, I can pass the test)

Either way, I see at least new valves & springs in my future thumbsup
