This has been the most extensive project, and is turning out to be the biggest pain in the a$$ project that i have undertaken on my car. I am dying all of the interior plastics black. Here's a shot of the center panel, dyed, with my black painted center console, and my new TRD shift knob (thanks NorwayGT!).

Thanks guys! I should tell you that it's going to end up costing me around $200 for the dye project, and that's JUST the materials cost... no labor cost.

it's not TOO difficult. You absolutely HAVE to make sure that the interior trim panels are clean, degreased, and de-oiled, or the dye will not take.

the dye is actually an elastomeric coating, so it's a type of paint that is formulated to remain flexible permenantly.
It's made by a company called Sems.
The steps that i'm using are:
1. clean the plastics with dish soap and HOT water... the hottest water i can stand to break up the oils. 2. clean the plastic with ammonia to break up the oils from the soap 3. spray the plastic with an adhesion promoter 4. spray the plastic with the color coat 5. spray the clear coat
I'm using a satin finish color coat with a low lustre clear coat.
I've been foloowing the same basic steps that i outlined in my paint guide, with the exception of all the sanding. I want to keep the texture of the plastic, so i won't be sading it.
If you have any other questions, hit me up!

How did you take the whole front dash off? I posted that question 2 times and seems like no one know for sure. Please let me know. P.S. And also how can i take off the passenger side airbag cover? youve got a HUUUUGE PM! what kind of dye are you using, and where can I get some? i used duplicolor FLAT black dye find it at walmart(auto section) or discount auto/etc... for the silver i used SEM 15803 silver(closest i could find to 1d0), only place i could find SEM dye was online(google it), but then i got lucky and snagged the last three cans from a local auto body shop! i just washed mine with dawn, wetsanded with 6-800grit(will keep plastic texture, if worried go with a higher grit), wash off, towel dry, blow dry/heat up plastic, left the paint cans sitting in warm/hot water for 4-5 minutes, shake for 4 and lightly coat again and again, blow dry, lightly coat agian and again and agian, blow dry... got it? while im here, ive seen some posts saying that this dye will peel off with the tape test... if the plastic was cleaned, had enough thin coats and has had enough time to cure( not dry, not 15 minutes, not overnight) it will not peel. my plastics have been sitting in my living room since the week of february 19th(im also installing a new system, so im in no rush to get the plastics back in!)... tape tested them... no peeling. i took a crapy vid with my coolpix digicam, for the non believers. or somethin like that! 37 hours, no sleep, im going to bed... i hate 16 hour shifts.
