"swap for 5spd" is a BAD idea - you paid good money for that Automatic transmission...
most economy low-end cars are manual transmission - a lot of the upper class cars that are on the market these days only come one way, Automatic.

Hey man, congrads on the "hand me down," and welcome to colorado, hope ya like it here... if ya need directions... just let me know. Whereabouts in CO are ya?
As for mods, are you refering more to performance, or apperance? Performance wise, the TRD exhaust would be good a good buy, and if you're looking at intakes I'd definately go for the K&N typhoon line. These two would give you some good up top power, without much low end loss. Appearance... all depends on your taste. Hope I could help.

Ya, im in Greenwood Village of Colorado, i might take you up on those directions...where do yall goe for a good time in your cars? Well this hand me down is good cause its a celica, but it was recently in an accident and i personally thing the mechanics did a shitty job putting it back togeter. Well atleast some scraches and cracks were cleaned up with the new bumper, though its gonna come right off once i get my hands on a kit. Does anyone know if its normal if after being warmed up, what the normal idel rpm is? i believe that ours is reving way low, acc is decreased and so is our idel rpm, hit me up with an answer, and if your in Co, lets chill
