Will my AEM CAI loss power with a Bypass Valve on. Is the Bypass valve worth putting on.

From what i understand you AEM owners dont need that bypass valve and you Injen owners dont need that splash guard... both are good for nothing paper weights...

In the event that it rains and you're on the road, the only way your engine will be in danger would be if your filter was COMPLETELY submerged in water. A splash on the filter while the motor won't hurt. Someone said a while ago that there was a video of a guy with a hose squirting his filter while the car was running and nothing happened.

If you have to drive through puddles, do one of 2 things. Number 1 put your transmission in neutral and go as slow as you can through the puddle if traffic permits. Number 2, put your car in neutral and just drive through at the normal traffic flowing speed.

The reason why you're supposed to put it in neutral is because at neutral, your RPMs are at the lowest point, and when your RPMs are at the lowest point, the engine requires very little air to operate. In your intake tube is a vacuum when your engine is on and that vacuum isn't strong enough to suck up enough water at idle to kill the engine.

Plus you will have to cut your CAI from what I understand to install the air bypass. There was a thread on here a few months ago where someone was pissed because it was extremely hard to fit on also in addition to having to cut the damn thing.

sorry to bring this post back from the dead but i was a victim of hydrolockin and i didn't have the bypass valve

and i have valve now and still haven't put it on yet but ur tellin me its not worth me puttin the bypass valve on????

from what i understand there IS a loss of power (i don't know the numbers) and it's not easy to install. there has also been a voluntary recall due to pieces of the valve being sucked into the engine. if you have the cai then live with it and drive around the big puddles. it's always a hazard to attempt to go through standing water anyways.

By the way how much it cost to fix your engine after hydrolocking it?

A Lot ... I believe your going to need a new engine if you hydrolock

rice i did need a new engine i had to pay 1000 insurance coverd the rest
