Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior Lowering on stock struts

Hey guys. Can anybody tell me about lowering on stock struts? I would like the Skunk 2.5" drop but I'm sure it will kill my ride quality and struts... I take it the TRD Springs have a good ride quality? And don't kill the stock struts too bad.. 1" isn't much though, I would like at least 1.5" - 1.8" would rock. Somebody on another forum suggested Hotchicks springs.. does anybody know what the quality of these? I don't like how they drop more in the back than the front (a lot... like .4-.5") If I do lower more than 1" does anybody know what kind of shocks I would want to get to keep a decent ride quality? Thanks!!!!!!!

I just got TRD's installed and the ride quality doesn't suffer too much at all. They will settle a little over time - might get a max of 1.2" drop all around. Perfect for me

If you get TRD you don't have to change your shocks and you will not loose lot of comfort it's the good part , but drop not that low (For my taste).
And it's true that lower you go more comfort you loose...
And if you really like agressive drop go with Eibach Sportlines or Gold-Line springs. But if you like to slightly lower your car go with TRD or Eibach Pro (I would take TRD over the Eibach Pro)

true, if your riding on 15's, you'll want a lower drop. However, imo 18's and the TRD drop go perfectly together

Well, I want to drop as much as possible, my MX-3 (http://www.mkd.cc/mx3/) is about -2.2" and I want to slam my celica but 1.5" will work
im going to keep it on stock wheels (option wheels) for a while while i Turbo it but I want to get 17/18s later so im expecting to change some things then...

I have Tanabe springs that will lower the car about 2". The ride has been pretty good. Not so rough as I thought. Also on stock struts. Here is what it looks like with 18".

Be careful, lowering on stock suspension will wear it out faster.

Ask Tony he was riding on Sportlines and stock shocks for two years...

Yes, but the stock shocks should last a long time, but if you lower them they will be under added stresses.

It will wear them out faster. If you don't believe me, ask someone else. They will give you the same answer.

TTE (toyota team europe) makes 30mm lowering springs that are ment to be used together with your original shocks.

for a 50mm drop, they've got a high adjustable kit.

its recommended that when you lower ur car, you need different shocks. actually it is needed, not recommended. as you lower ur car, ur ride will get stiffer and ur shocks will wear out quicker. That means that you can still drive it with lowering springs with stock shocks but be ready to change it soon cause its really gonna wear out and ur gonna feel the horrible suspension. Another reason to change ur shocks with springs at the same time is less labor and less time consuming plus no worries and suspension at its best. The stock shocks might last sometime depending on road conditions. for stock rim size, 2 inch drop will look at its best in my opinion.

I belive you...calm down... Best shocks (Last longer)for Sportlines is Eibach and Tokico...
