i think i need new brakes...i called the dealership, they say its $235 front. and they said it includes rotors. How often do you have to change them? they also said that only pads would be $99. what do i have to change? how do you know when you need to change rotors? And should i go to toyota or any service would be ok? thanks.

That seems a bit expensive.

Are you still under warranty? How many miles on your car?

I doubt you need to change your rotors; maybe just have them turned. And the pads seem expensive, too. You can get TRD pads for like $67 (I just got quoted this price a couple of days ago at my local dealership while they were changing the oil).

its a little over 50k. so no warranty for me i guess. i dont know if i need to change the rotors. so i was wondering how do you know that you need to change them? i asked them if they could look at it and tell me whether i need to change them...and they said "sure, we can look at them. thats another $35"...

any midas or anything gives free inspections...but i don't see why ur rotors would be bad with only 50K on them...probably just need brake pads thumbsup

That's total b.s.

Take it to midas or meineke or somewhere like that. They'll look at your stuff for FREE. Then you can decide what you wanna do, but like I said, I doubt you need to change your rotors unless you have been really harsh to your brakes or you've been in an accident or something like that..

Yes, total ripoff. Just go to a brake shop like the ones listed above.

get some Performance pads and have another shop turn ur rotor..

but 235 is the pads which is 99 + turning the rotor?

not a TOTALLY rip off but can be considered too expansive.
and the brake inspection should be free at toyota...(or am i wrong..?) cos it's free else where.

its 2 different places... toyota = 235 just pads and turning rotor.
another place is $99 pads (i guess turning the rotor too)

I just called midas, they said that brake inspection is 29.95 . brake service is 85.95 without turning the rotors...

ok, called another midas on the other side of the town and they said they would do a free inspection plus 89.95 per axle without turning the rotors. Turning the rotors would be additional $30 per axle.

So changing front pads plus turning the rotors = 120 plus tax... how does that sound?

$120 is includin new pads or no?

if it does include the pad, then it's a pretty good price i think.

here in canada i can have my rotor turned plus changin pad (does not include buyin new pad) is CND$100
the pads i bought for US$67 at tiresrack (EBC green stuff)...
u do the math lol~

so should i turn them or should i not? anywayz, i found this deal..it looks like its the best in this area... anywayz, 99.99 for the front pads and turning the rotors plus i got this coupon in the mail today $20 off per axle. So i figure out its gonna be 80 bux for pads and turning rotors...is that a good price???

ps. if you dont need to turn the rotors, isnt it quite easy to change the pads on your own?

Changing the pads can be a beyooooootch, just ask Steven laughsilly

You could do it yourself, I'm sure, but it shouldn't be TOO expensive to just have a shop do it and save yourself the headache.

yeah, my dealership installed my TRD Springs, TRD Brake Pads, and did an alignment for a modest price - not bad considering I didn't have to get my hands dirty - happywink

TRD spring install - $78.72
TRD Brake Pads install - $43.20
alignment - $48.00
