At least you dont live in salt lake city Utah. Its pointless to show any proff of being sound or emissions legal, because out here they passed a law that prohibits any modification to any vehicles exhaust system. Its gay. ane cost 50 bucks a pop everytime they ticket you.

TOOOOO funnnny!! I have had my car in the shop for almost 4 months doing mods. The day I decided to drive the car I got pulled over for exhaust mod. I got a ticket. I was told to go to a reff to get it signed off. I have a 2004 and the reff had no specs. Very cool for me. I have a Cert the court signed off. So I can go as loud as I want, and just show my cert from the court and tell the cops to go pound sand. My HD is twice as loud as my Celica, and never have had a prob. I consider this discrimination.

he did the whole bit about my exhaust being modified Modified exhausts are completely legal as of 2001, the only thing is though it can't exceed 95db. Which from what I hear is pretty damn loud! You can have a 10 inch tip there if you wanted to as long as it is NOT harmful to other drivers, etc... but you get my point. The key here is to prove it to officer before he writes the ticket or you will have to go to court and prove it to the judge. Big hassle. so, just because the officer GUESSES that your exhaust is too loud, based on using his own ears, across the street and in his patrol car with the windows rolled up and the police radio turned on... he is going to be correct? Last time I checked, the patrol cars didn't have sound level checking devices on them. But also, in California you are ALWAYS GUILTY until you can prove yourself innocent. ... The key is not go get the ticket in the first place. The only way to do that is to convince the Officer not to write one. That means you have to education him/her on the violation in question. In the case of the exhaust, even if the law says 95db is the limit, I don't think any officer can tell you precisely what db each exhaust is giving out. Therefore, he/she have to rely on common sense and experience. no ticket=no need to go to court=no need to take time off=no hassle. ... on a side note, I found what I was looking for to replace the clown-horn that comes stock with the Celica http://shop.certiport.com/Shop/Control/fp/vpid/830126/SFV/13379I go to Pierce and I was taking the Dyno class (only 8 weeks) I asked my teacher about the 95dB thing and he asked the Ref, Who is not a teacher at Pierce, and he said that it is OK to have a moded exhaust but the sound level can be no higher than 96dB (ideal is 95dB, but they give a 1dB point as leeway) at a distance of 24 inches. Anything higher and you will have to fix the exhaust

Anything higher and you will have to fix the exhaust yo serg ct told me about the 1 dB leeway but someone needs to tell the state referee 2 feet from the car is WAAAAAYYY!!! to close.man at that distance your silvia wouldnt even pass considering you have a tanabe exahust and yours is way louder than mine and mine IS loud. thats not the rules/guidelines set up by SEMA it needs to be at least 20 feet away. AT 2 FEET AWAY EVEN A STOCK EXHAUST REVED AT 5000 RPM WILL BE OVER THE 95dB LIMIT!!!!!!!  if you can, you need to talk to that referee(or have your shop teacher do it) and let him know that his guidelines are wrong

i think the ASE statement said 24 inches as well...that is what TRD mailed me. can anyone find this document that has the thing spotted at 20 ft??? because that would make a hell of a differrence. i mean with what i have now (documents from TRD, the certificate of compliance, the ASE standards saying testing to be held at 3-5K rpm and not 5700rpm) like i was tested should be enough. but the more ammo you give me the better...for all of us
