Celica Forums General Discussion General clear side marker inspection issue

Yesterday I went to get my yearly state inspection. I'm sitting there chilling, when the guy comes up and tells me that they're going to have to fail me unless they swap out my white bulbs in the side marker lenses for amber ones. I knew the law about it here in VA, but thought it'd fly. Guess not. I told them it was cool and to just keep the white ones for me.

A couple minutes pass by and then the guy shows up again. This time he's serious, he says they have to fail me because I have clear side marker lenses, you know, the APC ones or whatever. By this point I'm PISSED! I've never had a problem with it before, and there are even cars sold in VA from the factory with clear side lenses. I told them all that. He spent about 10 minutes flipping through the state police book about inspections. He comes out and says yeah, they'll have to fail me. I was like "That's bullshit!" But the guy is really cool about it. He was like "We haven't scraped off the old sticker yet, so I'd reccomend you go to some small mom and pop shop and get it done. They'll probably look right over it." I was at the local Toyota dealer getting this done. So I thanked him for helping me out. He goes on to say he likes the way they look, and as long as the lights work, he doesn't see the issue. I was pissed. So now I have to take more time out of my already busy schedule to try for an inspection again.

Anybody else have this problem, or know what the laws are?

we dont have vehicle inspections here.

as far as i know lenses can be amber or clear but the bulbs can only be red or amber i think well at least here in cali

just unplug them... side markers are not required in all states - heck, there are many cars that don't even come with side markers.

tell the guy that they are reflectors - reflectors are perfectly legal

i have the clear side lenses/markers or whatever they are called and i have the hyper white bulbs, I don't really think that is illegal...is it?

coppers can pull you over for being black in a white city... do you think that is legal?

they can also cite you for looking for a street address - they write it up as "crusing" or "loitering"

and most recently, they've pulled me over for heading into my driveway at too steep of an angle

Man, I remember that post a while ago that you were talking about when you got 6 tickets in one day...that sucked.

Pa. inspections gotta be at the top for the biggest hassle. For a lot of things, if they find a violation they either have to fix it or remove it before you are allowed to leave. i.e, driving light violations for one. Pa. sucks. Anyone else feel this way?

so whats the vehicle inspections for?

...well i dont care...i just dont know why you guys hate the civic so much?

im thinking of getting my car painted the new pearl blue color that honda has on their new civic...and the new Acura EL.

Why didn't you just agree with the dude to pass the inspection?
