I do suppose this could go into the racing forum but I felt it was more of a general question than about have being beaten by or beating a specific car or how to race.

But what's with people turning on their hazards when they either win or are passing to win a street race?

My best guess is it's like a form of mocking the other person..

It lets the people watching at the starting line know who one. Sometimes at night its hard to see the finish

i turn it on when i have an emergency and have to pull over to warn ppl and so they can see me laughsilly laughsilly
anyways yeah its more of an insult to the car behind, to me it means that the to the car behind "needs to pull over coz he's too slow" grin

It's supposed to signal that the race is over. Otherwise, you'd be 4 lengths ahead and the ricer would think he won because you slowed down and he passed you.

I usually use them to warn cars when I'm doing something unusual. Backing up a freeway exit, double parking... stuff like that.

Done the freeway exit thing a few times... when you're in a hurry late at night and miss the enterance.

Double parking... only when I really want Starbucks and can't find a spot.

Yeah, I was gonna say. It's not to mock people, it's to signal that the race is won, and the person isn't going to try anymore.
