i got a 2 1/4 in downpipe conversion, w/ a hi-flow cat n magnaflow resonator connected to my trd exhaust...it's makin my trd sound real weird, not like before..obviously sounds like too many air flow to the muffler..n it lets out a lil buzzing noise when i floor the gas in gear. i know that if i put my stock cat. back on, it'll sound perfect...but definatly take away power...most people recommend changing mufflers...i love my trd...but in order to keep the power, i wouldn't mind gettin another Performance muffler..what what aftermarket mufflers out there can handle high air flow without makin a loud buzzing noise with good quality.

might be a hole in the welds, cause i have a hole and it does the same thing when i floor it.

2 1/2 " downpipe? from the collector?
thats too small dude!
and the cat you replaced the stock cat with (might say hi flo. but hi flo as compared to what cat? those on civics, accords, tercels etc.point.the celica cat is a hi flow cat! a very good one too you see the size of that thing?.take a look at the celica cat the diameter and compare it to the dimameter of the hi flo one and take into account the material on the inside. if you can come up with the hi flo cat is still better, then maybe it is and let me know which one so i can get one grin
as for the resonator you might not be sure if its really flowing more.
when changin exhaust parts/components its not a good idea to guess and buy stuff, esp. with small displacement hi specific output engines like the 2zzge(those guys at toyota tried to squeeze as much hp out of the car within a certain noise level requirment)
did you feel any gains? dont just go by it feels better low down, does it feel better up top as well,is the car revving quicker?
btw. the resonator.is it perforated,or is it louverd(with swirls, and rises on the inside, what is the bore dimeter as compared to the stock one) all this and the welding can contribute to exhaust noises.
why dont you post a pic of the set up.

the stock cat on our Celi's is already "hi-flow", there's not point in replacing it. But since you already did, it sounds like you have a leak or a hole. Take it back to the place where you got it & have them check it.

yea..the story about the piping is because i once had 2.5 n it burned way too much gas so i got 2 1/4 which gave me more top end...that was that...as for the cat..it gave me a lotta gains, revved faster, gave me a lotta low end (no bogging when clutch is released too fast) because all i feel is a push when that happens, the hi flow sounded much louder because when i had a stock, it sounded smoother even with the magnaflow resonator..i took it to 2 muffler shops thinkin it was a hole or leak and they did inspection for holes, i had none...the sound is definatly from the muffler..even when i'm not movin, i just rev hard n it sounds like the air flow is overworking itself..i dunno how to put it..wish i had a movie/sound file to let yall know what i'm talkin about a lot better.. =T
