Unless you're auto-xing, I think coilovers are overrated. Just get some quality springs/struts, like a TRD package. thumbsup

Coil overs is the way to go if you want Performance, but be prepared for a stiffer ride than spring/struts, plus you'll end up paying two to three times more for coil overs. Tein SS are the most popular, there's also Tanabe & Hotchkis. They'll pretty much perform the same, it's just which brand you're more loyal to, or which one you think looks better.

springs are better if you want a smoother ride, but coil overs will perform better.

Eibach, TRD, Tein, Tanabe, they'll perform really well. For struts, I would go with KYB, but Tokico are pretty good too. It all depends how much you wanna spend.

Aslong as you buy name brand parts, you'll be happy with the end result.

On a smooth road, it rides like stock, but if the road is pretty bad & full of bumps & holes, then you'll feel every bump & hole. Too me, it's not a big problem, I already got used to it, but I also have mine set a little stiffer, plus 215/35 tires dont help either smile

If you just want to lower you car, then lowering srings & new struts will do just fine. Coil over's are not for everyone, I went with them 'cuz they perform like no other grin but there's a price to pay.

With TRD and Eibach pro springs you will not feel any diference in comfort (Same comfort as a stock), but drop not that low for my taste.
If you install Gold-lines or Spotline springs you will lose in comfort litle bit, but it's not that bad as coil overs. I use to have a coil overs and let me tell you... ride was very ,very bumpy... After I installed Eibach Sportline springs I was feeling a big difference Spotlines are way stiffer than stock springs but compare to coil overs they are very nice...
P.S. Yes you will need an Aligment kit, you can buy Eibach alighment kit (front) for $26 -(Two bolts and two nuts).
Also you can buy Hotchkins camber plates (rear) $250 .But it's not nessasary at all. Alighment shop will not be able to do the Alighment on the front w/o front Alighnment kit , but they will do the camber adjastment on the rear by using your stock camber plates...

All you need are springs, struts if you can afford them now. That way you don't have to pay twice to get them installed and for two alignments.

The only problem with a spring vs. a coilover setup is you are stuck with a fixed ride height. That is all fine and good unless you don't like the way they turn out. You should always add camber correction on a drop of more than 1.5". I personally went with TRD coilovers. I love em' not to mention they are covered under factory warranty.

The TRD springs are a 1" drop but the coilovers are adjustable. I think the factory reccomendation is 1.5" for the front and 1.75" for the back

True coilovers are the best. You want to adjust the ride height whenever you want either way (sleeve over or coilover) and drive like that. Plan on many alignments. A true coilover from any company will cater to your spring needs, for a price of course. Coilovers to be perfect need to be corner balanced and tuned for your driving needs. Slap them on by a friend and you might have worse handling than stock. Get them right and your a God at twisties over spring and struts. It takes more time, money, and effort for coilovers to be really effective, but if willing they will be the best. For just looks and a drop, a lowering spring is good enough and will help with lower center of gravity and of course the spring rates. This may kill the stock struts quicker so I've heard. I read a while ago that the Celica's suspension, lowered, needs a shorter strut/shock and some damping adjustability. I personally would go for Tein SS-P or Jic Flt-A2 and the Zeal B Series or B-6 if you can afford it amongst others not listed here.

Most Coilovers you can adjust the stiffness and ride height! Bumps are not a problem with coilovers... They are a problem with springs...

I have Tein Ha's and the bumps are not a problem. Stiff- yes- but the car sits down instantly, no real hop or bounce like it should. Over potholes I have to be careful or railroad tracks because it will jolt you and feel like you did bad to your Celica and your coilovers (this is on stiffer settings). To me this is how every sports car should be. I love it and love adjusting the damping. It is a science for the back, but get accustumed to moving the trunk plastics or cutting them. I highly recommend coilovers.

There is a way to get around that. You could cut some holes and then make some carbon fiber covered pieces of plastic that fit right over the holes. Furthermore, you could just use velcro to attach them!! It would look SICK too!! You would no longer have to worry about removing the plastic!! thumbsup

IDK, but with my Tanabe coilovers I just have to remove the middle plastic piece, right behind the rear seats, & there's a hole big enough on the frame for my fingers to fit & adjust the dampening. It only takes me about a minute to adjust them.

so it sounds like to me that all of you are suggesting that getting a set of coil overs would be better.

so which set would be better the tanabe pro ss or the tein ss kit. the i saw that the tein ss does not come with the upper pillow mounts --where do i get those or do i need those.
and do i still need a camber correction kit.
