there was a big Toyota meeting in Miami, FL during the week and weekend that my dad and mom went to...

so i asked him about it and he told me what was there and stuff..

the Toyota President was there (dude from Japan)...

my dad says..

-new Scion tC is very nice...dual moonroof's on it are standard, which is pretty neat...everyone loves sunroof's...

-160 hp stock...with with TRD supercharger available, it gets around 200 hp..too bad no lift

-saw the Toyota X-runner truck...pretty neat

-later on Toyota is releasing a truck that resembles the TRD Craftsmen Truck Series Tundra...idk anything about it, but I'm guessing it's gonna have a bunch of TRD parts on it, plus it is going to look like the TRD truck racing.

-there will be a supercharger available for the X-runner truck...making it 300 hp I think...stock 0-60 is 7 secs...it's gonna be pretty quick...

-saw 2006 Avalon...idk what it looks like, said it was neat...

-there was NO mentioning of the next Celica at all..and we know the MRS is discontinued for 05

-toyota president says there is nothing planned for the celica or mrs...but that there will be "new and exciting products replacing them" a litte later on...right now, Toyota's focusing on the Scion's and the tC mainly to grab the attention of celica/mrs buyers

I think that was it that he told me...anyway, i look forward to seeing what Toyota has going and I don't think they are out of any market yet (sports car)...I think they will come along and the stuff they have coming seems great. grin

Yea when i bought my celica in January, i asked the dude from the dealership about if he knew about any new and upcoming toyota cars that are comin out. He told us that a lot of people wanted the celica to become a rear wheel drive. He says they MAY make one. He also said that the new supra thats supposed to come out is going to be even better and faster then the older model. Thats just what he said though. Im not sure how or where he got this info.

The new GS is pretty pimp, I know it's a Lexus, but it's still a Toyota wink Plus they're also gonna release a 270hp RX with a hibrid engine.

no, not that, it's that there was NO word at the meeting of the next gen Celica or anything about the 2005 or what is going on with it...

only heard that toyota president said there is going to be new and exciting products to replace the Celica and MRS that are better and that right now, toyota is taking the celica and MRS customers and focusing them on Scion and the tC. grin

RWD on a Celica would only make it slower unless the engine was rerouted to the rear of the car.

nope, although it would get a little bit less power to the ground, it would make that up by far by giving us way better launches off the line...but if it was a race from a role it would make the car slower

Good idea...i hope they do that...it will turn out just like the supras now. I like that idea. People would want them, and you could probably get some good money if/when you sell it.

also isn't good for snow and shit...that's why toyota has it front. RWD tend to always oversteer and peel out all over lol. AWD is the way to go...WRX. grin

It wouldn't make the launch that much better. And by making it a RWD car, you are talking about a 5% extra drive train loss.

Even if the RWD Celica got a jump off the line, the FWD Celica next to it would most likely be able to take it.

yea that would be fine with me...don't know yet though, Toyota isn't concerned with it as of now, they are just holding production back a bit. I really don't know how the 2005 will be...if it's the same cause the 04 model got all that new stuff for only a year? doesn't make sense you know? Probably won't hear anything else till late spring or summer.

You did bring up a good point that I was wondering about...why would they have spent the time and money to do all the new stuff if there was only one more production year left? I mean...I know that they would still get the products purchased if they discontinued the celica (from people that have the 7th gen)...but nowhere as much money as if they had at least one more year. People like brand spankin new cars.

I hate to disagree... but Toyota doesn't make the Celica RWD for cost reasons. Same reason that ALL econo-cars are FWD- it's cheaper. Look at every true sports car out there (ie corvettes, vipers, Z's...), they are rear drive. I also might offer that RWD is really only a problem in poor road conditions if you don't have experience driving them. There was a huge article in one of the auto industry magazines this month (I get so damn many that I forget which one) that dealt with the issue. It basically said that the advantages of FWD on wet roads has been overstated throughout the years, and that many of the modern traction assistance advances on RWD cars more than makeup for it.

Not having RWD is the only huge complaint that I have about the Celi. Okay I lied... that and lack of torque. tongue

now if they discontiue the celi do you really think any after market company is goin to continue to do anything for it. why go through r and d for a discontinued car.

I think the aftermarket will stay the same, but just because a car is discontinued doesn't mean it will have a weak aftermarket. Look at cars like 240sx, there are shops here in cali that specialize in engine swaps and mods just for that car. We will probably still have the same mods available but nothing new would come out. idunno

If the discontinue the Celi, and (not sure about this) are implying that either the Scion tC or sports sedan for Toyota will replace it in the future, they're guaranteed to lose customers to Honda. I'll just strap on an RSX instead. Not happy to do it, but there have been to many generations of the Celi to let it die like that. I hope it lives.

this is wut i believe in:
toyota came up with scion tc and waiting for sales result and see if their gonna get the celica and mrs enthusiasts to appreciate their new car. if not, then they will make a new celica. dont expect a new celica until late 2005 minimum. they are gonna put a hold on the celica for a while. they just changed the action package and did the most it could be done to it to make it look fresher and they wont ever touch the car again until they decide to come up with a new generation.
seriously, i wouldnt mind if they discontinue celica, and reproduce sometime later. like mini cooper did. or if they wanna come up with celica, they have to release something awersome. or they have another choice to make a car that replaces both celica and supra.

btw vsgts, how often these meetings happen? once a year or wut?

Anyone who says FWD > RWD has no idea what their talking about. At launches, weight shifts to the rear bringing up the front, thus less traction at the front on a FWD car = less power. That's why FWD dragsters have wheelie bars and you thought they were just silly. Also doesn't the RWD differential multiply torque? FWD transaxle doesn't.
