I drive an auto but I don't think you have to rev so high to shift gears(I know how to drive stick too). I'm sure you'll get a lot of comments from manual transmission owners. Give it some time.

You don't need to shift so late. For daily driving, I shift around 3K, if not before. There's a certain RPM where the engine is at it's peak, after that...it's pretty much useless.

daily driving i shift just below 3...theres no need to go any higher...if you are intending to keep the celica for awhile w/ the same engine...i would barely red line...it is hard on your engine and it breaks down much faster...

You're seriously gonna screw up your engine.. especially if you accidentally mis-shift at like 9000rpm - ouch

The Celica likes it rough. The real danger is with the tranny... think how much pressure is put on it when you shift from 8k EVERY time. Our engines have been proven to handle redlining well at the track and all... but I don't think that anyone tries driving like that on a daily basis. BTW, how do you drive it in like a 40-zone? Do you shift from 1 to 2 then up to six or something? Geez. Your car apparently has gears you've probably never used.

you're just waiting to bend your valves all to hell, drop your tranny on the highway or get your engine to sieze up on you...calm it down...ever think about what kind of heat all that redlining generates? The 2zz in the GTS has a high compression ratio as is, and generates enough heat on its own...if you drive it like you say you do you're gonna blow the head gasket and warp the head eventually at the least...and resurfacing a block after warping a head gasket is super expensive

Hey man, its ok to redline you car, just dont be bouncin off the rev limiter all crazy, or keep it there for more that the split second it needs to be there. Of course you shouldnt even be in VVTL during daily driving, but when you wanna feal the power of you celi, hit that 7800 in first and slam that shit into second, pullin on fools. Late

Like everyone else said, you shouldn't be revving the engine so high for just daily driving. Your supposed to keep redlining minumum. Shift around 3k or less for longer engine life and gas mileage

redlining your car for short periods of time will hardly do anything to your car (racing, hard acceleration, etc.). the danger in redlining is DRIVING in the redline. this may cause you to drop your tranny because it is not made to maintain those rpms (8k and above in the gts..except '02) for more than a few seconds at a time. as stated earlier, the danger is more to your tranny than to your engine but obviously driving your car hard will add extra wear to your engine (although small..every little bit counts). if your an occasional racer, then redling for a couple of seconds trying to land lift will hardly do anything to your car. if your just driving around, it's better just to stay as far away from the redline as possible (less wear = longer life).
