Hey guys. I got a question for ya's. My buddy got pulled over by a cop just the other night and the cop gave him a ticket for use of improper headlights ($110 Can i believe) and now he's wondering if he should fight the ticket or plead guilty and get it lowered. I know he's running Polarg B1 Hybrid (which are blue) as his parking lights and from what the cop said... he's in violation of The Highway Traffic Act 62(6) which states:
Lamps on the front of a motor vehicle shall be so constructed, located, arranged and adjusted that when lighted as required by Subsections (1), (2) and (3) they produce under normal atmospheric conditions and on a level road a driving light sufficient to render clearly discernible to the operator of the motor vehicle any person or vehicle on the highway within a distance of 110 metres ahead of the motor vehicle.
Subsection (1): When on a highway at any time from one-half hour before sunset to one-half hour after sunrise and at any other time when, due to insufficient light or unfavourable atmospheric conditions, persons and vehicles on the highway are not clearly discernible at a distance of 150 metres or less, every motor vehicle other than a motorcycle shall carry three lighted lamps in a conspicuous position, one on each side of the front of the vehicle which shall display a white or amber light only, and one on the rear of the vehicle which shall display a red light only.
Subsections (2) and (3) are for motorcycles...
The only thing written on the ticket is improper headlights and I'm pretty sure the cop was pointing more specifically towards his blue parking light. I mean his headlights are white and I'm sure any of you would know for a fact that the blue parking lights are fairly low intensity and will not be visible from 150m. As a matter of fact, you have to be pretty damn close to even realize that the parking lights are blue especially when your running PIAA Xtreme White Plus H1's as your low beams which are located pretty much right next to your parking lights... (He's driving a 04 Mazda 6 BTW). I even have all my exterior lights changed. My parking lights are blue, I have clear side markers with blue lights, hell I even have Blue Underbody lights (I drive an 03 Celica). I've driven by many cops with my lights on and all they do is stare at it and just drive by like nothing is going on. I suppose this is all up to the officer who pulled him over and what kind of a mood he was in because for the most part, most cops don't seem to care that much. Any input would be appreciated...

The bottom line is that blue and red neons are illegal in most states!!! Regardless if you personally have driven past cops many times with them on "consider yourself lucky they haven't pulled you over yet"!! Your friend should just go to court and plead guilty and hope the judge lowers it. Also you should change your blue lights before you get pulled over because you probably just jinxed yourself. [list]

here are the bulbs that were used... The blue polarg housing on the left - the yellowish stock is on the right when the polarg lighting is turned ON - it displays WHITE light (as i've pictured above)

Once again... I'm from Canada... I'm sure the parking lights and turn signals are illegal in blue but I asked about the underbodies to my dad's friend who happens to be the Chief of Police and he told me that he's never heard of any bylaws (In Southwestern Ontario, Canada) which prohibits the use of underbodies..

Change the bulbs and then show up to court claiming that they've been legal all along.. it's his word against the cops.. hopefully, the cop won't show and he'll get out of it. Better yet, request a change of court date.. maybe even try to get it moved to a further location as to further decreased the likelihood that the cop will show
