just installed the tanabe strut bar last night, a few questions with anybody who have one. the factory battery tie-down seem a little high. the positive connector is cramp between the valve cover & the battery itself, is that ok? it feels like the + connector cover is going to pop off. anybody have similar situation??? thanks~
I installed the same strut bar - I have an '03 with the same battery you have. The fit is a bit tight. I had to cut most of the vertical flanges off the battery tiedown where it runs under the strut bar. I also had to shorten the threaded rod that that secures the tiedown bar and replace the wingnut with a lower profile hex nut. Lastly, I rotated my battery terminals a little further so the cables weren't quite so squashed. That left a little more room for the cover on the positive terminal.
As an aside, I previously tried both the APR and RMM strut bars. I had problems with both, and I think the Tanabe bar is the best choice.

I had the same problem so I grinded a little space out of the side of my gts valve cover(surronding) thing so the positive would fit nicely. and the tie down had to be grinded down quite a bit for me (maybe cause I have cold weather package=bigger battery?). I just repainted it after grinding it.

Stiffen the chassis to reduce body flex during hard cornering. i've strut bar on both celica & paseo; however, i haven't notice that much of a difference...

Well I do have a 2002. But the battery is stock. I don't know if they changed it when they made the 2003. I think that, that might be the problem. Does anyone else have this strut bar on an 03? You could always get a Dremel Tool and do a little cutting.

I think they did change batteries for '03. Mine is smaller. I have more clearence on the sides, but the strut bar passed right over the rod that secures the tie down in the rear. I had to trim it with a Dremel. Could have cut a little less off...I'll know for next time.

dude, what's the brand of your battery? can you find out the model or something? i can really use the help. i drove around the town and found out our battery is a 35, output at 800 crank. sad thing is they don't get any smaller than "true start," unless is a 26 @ 650 crank...

i had the same problem, i had to cut down the upper screw for the strut bar to fit. its a tight fit, but its ok. and also, i posted before and people said "get the hypermotive tie-down" so i did, and guess what, didnt fit because i had the smaller battery. it only fits on the bigger battery that are in some celica, unless you wanna cut it down.
