have all of you who say sony sucks actually had sony equipment? i've got sony' black 1600 watt mono amplifier hooked up to two of the pentagon 12s and it bangs the hell outta them. that was in my mustang with 8 gauge power wire and an outdated deck. i will be up around 140 easily.

I have heard Sony sucks many times... Some of their older head units are good, still used in competitions.. but their newer models have lost the quality somewhere. But all that really matters is that you are happy. So in that case you should be set.

Sony headunits don't put out enough voltage in a sub/amp system. If you plan on getting subwoofers and amplifiers, get a head unit that has better voltage.
Knowing the path and choosing the path are two different things.

I had Sony stuff in my Miata (deck, 6's in the doors, 6x9's in back)... the stuff all SUCKED. At the very least, you would think that it shouldn't distort if everything is from the same company and same product line. Well... it did. A lot.
If you really decided that you like the Sony decks, I'd get the second. The preouts are 4 volts instead of 2, which will help some with building a system. I'd really look into anything from Eclipse, Rockford, Pioneer, Kenwood...
I'm just a crosshair I'm just a shot away from you

i have the 1600 watt sony amp, two sony 12s, and now the 2nd headunit i mentioned. in my mustang i set off car alarms a lot with 8 gauge power wire and a 3 yrd old deck. and it wasn't just loud, it was clear and precise.

If you really want one of those two Sony units, then get the 2nd one. But I think you can find better looks and quality with Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, Eclipse, just not Sony.

Ok let me lay down the basics... Your sony "1600 watt amp" is actually probably only 850 watts. Horrible S/N ratio and some of the "dirtiest power" ever. You wanna blow subs? Stick with sony! Furthermore, your subs... Think about it long and hard and you will realize that a Hexagonal design is totally inferior to a round sub... Oh, and i guarantee that you are not hitting above 135...

Sony can't do car audio... I would have gone with an Alpine, Kenwood or Pioneer deck.

Oh, and i guarantee that you are not hitting above 135... maybe not. but if my subs were going to blow up they would have by now. i had the older style sony 12s for over 2 years, then sold them and bought the newere ones which i still have. i've been running those for about a year now.
