I went to Toyota to to look into to trading my 2002 Celica GT Auto for a 2002 or higher Celica GT Manual. My car is in great condition and only has 17,000 miles on it.
When I purchased the car I did not know how to drive a manual so I just went with the auto. I know i know biiig mistake!!!! Anyways the dealership just wants me to buy a 2004 not a used. Personally I do not care as long as my payments are reasonable and I do not have to pay much more than the 48 months. So a used celica we be more realistic.
The damn salesman was trying to get me into a 24K 2004 Celica GT 5 speed!!!! A GT 5 Speed starts at 17,500. All I want is powered locks and windows, alarm, and sunroof. There is no way in hell that would cost an extra 6.5K. They are crazy!!!
Then at that they were saying that they would take my car for 10K. [Now I do not have much of anything for mods, cause i wanted to wait till I got a manual, so what ever changes I have I can put back] But I thought that was kinda LOW!!!
Please tell me what you guys and gals think. Are they trying to rip me off? The damn salesmen frustrates me!!!! I live in the DC/MD/VA area if anyone knows a good dealership in the area could ya let me know...
yea dude .. personally i think they should give you more for it... just my opinion though. try other dealerships.. it would be worth all the driving around
Never, ever trade your car in... unless it's such a POS that you can't get anyone to buy it. Even then it's a bad idea. Just go to KBB.com and check the difference between "trade-in" value and "dealer" price. It's insane. To give you an example, they said they would be "generous" and give me 17k for my 2003 GTS with only 10k miles. What a flipping JOKE.
Sell your car private-party if you can. Then, if you are serious about a used car, shop around til you find exactly what you want. Don't let them sucker you into something else.
I'm just a crosshair I'm just a shot away from you
i was told never to go and tell them you're doing a trade-in. until you both agree on a final price.
Actually, it doesn't much matter. The dealers aren't stupid. They know that the price of the car minus the value of the trade in is what you're gonna pay. If you get a slick deal on the new car, they'll try screwing you on the trade to make up for it. They don't care if they sell you the car for 30k with a 10k trade-in, or for 25k with a 5k trade.

it Sucks cause I am trying to ask them to be reasonable, but NOOOO!!! I aks for a used car, but NOOO!!! All they care about is getting a new car sale!! BASTARDS!!! Anyone know of any kool dealerships in the area
Holy crap man, there was an '01 GT Auto for sale a few months ago at a local toyota dealer, and they were selling it for around $18,000. The only major things I could see it had extra were the leather seats, moonroof, and the auto dimming mirror I think. I think you could get more...

yeah I saw 1 in penn. going for that price, but was sold yesterday. I am still going to look for a used celica.
i went to one dealership with my jeep and they were going to get me 8 grand for it i got up and walked and went to another one and they offered 10 grand for, you just gotta shop around

that is absolutely correct. by leaving that information out until things are agreed upon (price wise) the dealer won't low ball you and determine everything because of the trade in.
