Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior Disable A/C on Celica!!!

I have an Auto 2002 GT Celica and I want to disable the A/C just disable it not remove it.
(Reason I just want to disable is because, I have a lease! Yeah I know how stupid of me, but anyways I just want to do this mod. Something I can put back to default so when i return it the dealer won't say sh**.)
So can anyone help me out or give me advice? Thanks...

Well, I think all this would take would be to remove the A/C Condensor from the belt system.

Buy a new smaller belt to re-route the belt throught the correct pulleys and leave out the A/C condensor.

This should work becuase now the condensor isn't sapping power from the engine.

Take you car to a local mechanic, they should know exactly how to do it ... otherwise I have no idea.

Rice, I think you mean the compressor. The condensor isn't run by the belt, it's a totally different thing.

I know, I know... there is a little button on the dash marked AC... push it

the compressor doesn't engage unless that little button is on. So you won't notice gains from disabling the belt since unless the AC is ON the belt only spins a low friction wheel (you might get like 1/4hp from bypassing that), just don't use your AC. I honestly don't think there is any reason do disconnect it.

Pointless mod... I just have never turned mine on. The best gain would be to just remove it and get a smaller belt.. that mihgt save you 40 pouinds?? but again that is pointless

there are some things that just need to be done by people who actually know what they are doing.

if you start messing with the belts in your fury of playing with things - and you put a belt on a bit loose or have a pulley that isn't aligned correctly, then you run a HIGH chance of getting the whole system out of wack of the period of 3 months - requirering you to install a new engine crank because your current setup will either tear off or get twisted inside the engine.
