Damn, I've posted like 3 topics within the last minute.
During the winter or whenever it rains heavily and I start my car up, it makes this whistling noise. Sometimes it goes away after the car is warmed up and I drive it. But sometimes it stays a while. What is that noise? It's annoying and it makes my car sound old.

Your unnecessary response doesn't help me out any. But thanks for your advice.

might be the belt...
get something call belt-dressing from any car store...and spray the inner part of the belt...
it will probably go off for the one day, but anotherday it comes on again...then just keep on doin the same thing (spray the belt) it should go away in like...a week or so.. if it does not work, go to ur dealer if they can do anything.

Drive belt is worn, you'll need to replace it. Belt dressing is like putting a bandaid on a bullet wound, it will make the squeak go away, but the drive belt is ribbed, and the squeaking is it slipping, telling you its time to replace it.

I think it's been said but it's the belt tensioner and it only seems to occur in the seventh gen. and people locally here have had it replaced and the sound just comes back, my mom's 02 GTS had that problem in the winter but it seems fine now..and as you figured out, it tends to go away once the car is warmed up. It doesn't seem to be much to worry about though and if you have the warrenty on still I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have it replaced but don't be susprised if the sound returns.

Yep thats exactly rite! I had the exact same problem wit my GTS (its called ZR in Australia) and the Toyota guy said its a common problem with the 7th Gen celicas. Dealers can usually replace them for free under warranty. Cheers.

It's the belt tensioner. I had this problem from day two and Toyota gave me the run around about it since. It hasn't come back until recently from 6-8 months ago. I thought the belt healed itself. Crickets under the hood, I told Toyota. They said, I was crazy. Belt tensioner sprays are crap and shouldn't even be used on a serpentine belts like ours even knowing that there is a problem with the tensioner. Believe me I just tried it many times. My belt looks a little worn so I'm going to replace it stock, try the gator belt, or go AEM (even though I don't want to because I'll know what will happen). If under warranty have Toyota fix it. If not do a search here and good luck.
