Hi everyone, If anyone belongs to newcelica.org they already know me. My name is Matt and I have created an engine torque brace for the 7th Gen. Celica. Basically, the brace helps out in a lot of ways. 1. gives smoother shifting. 2. better initial power transfer 3. saves engine mounts from excess wear from hard driving. Pictures are here: the brace [ photos.yahoo.com] These have been installed on at least 50 Celicas and some people have dropped as much as .2 secs. off of their 1/4 mile times. I was wondering if anyone is interested in these from this forum. I am not a business, I made one of these for my car and people on NC.org asked me to make more. Please feel free to start up a discussion on these and let me know if there are any questions. Also feel free to PM me if you decide you want one. Thanks Matt
I make the engine brace!

Hey matt, I bought one off of you on nc.org under the name "xkrnplayboyx." Your product is great and really helped smooth out my shifts. I recommend this to all 7th generation celica owners!

Does it just attach in existing places? Is it only for the one side?
And lastly HOW MUCH?

one end attaches to the strut tower thru a hole that already exists and the other end attaches to 1 of the 2 passenger side engine mounts.

Steven it looks as if the strut tower side is mounted with rubber is this the case?

Sorry guys, I was out most of the evening. Thanks to some of the guys who have bought these in answering some of the questions.
Price on these is $56.00 shipped in the US $61.00USD shipped to Canada I also ship worldwide just need your postal code for pricing.
I do group buys to same loction if someone wants to get them together, shipping is much cheaper that way. i just need a heads up when you get one so I can make them. I'm only a one man crew and I need time to make them.
The brace fits both GT and GTS. You only need one.
I take paypal and money order. PM me with order info or questions. Thanks Matt

what sort of gains do they give you? Why don't they come with one stock if it's so cheap and improves engine life and power?

Basically, the reason cars don't come stock with them is the same reason cars don't come with a CAI. It cost more, makes more noise and the average person doesn't want/need it.
As for the vibration reduction. The only way to do that is to have a set up like the brashboy setup above. But look at the price!!!
For $56 you get all of the performance a little noise and a whole lot less cost. Basically this is the thinking behind the brace. I could make one like theirs but the price would be that high.
As any performance mod you sacrifice a little comfort for some performance.
The gains from the brace are smoother shifting, quicker throttle response, less bogging in corners, less engine mount wear.
The down side is slight vibration at idle, and a low level gear whine. (drowned out by a radio, talking, or wind noise, it's that low level.)
Just a side note on the brashboy setup. notice anything missing on the car--hint--cruise control. You have to remove the cruise to install theirs. My brace is direct bolt-on with no removal of stock components.
Also the front beam of the Celica is very weak and will not hold up to stress of a brace pulling against it constantly.
My brace is rear mount(shock tower) a very strong point on the car. [ 04-29-2003, 05:02 AM: Message edited by: killerm ]

The first week I had it installed was rattling. It sounded like a damn supercharger... it winded up harmonically with the engine rpm. It's been like 3 weeks since i installed it and the vibration noise is gone or BARELY noticeable. I have nothing but good things to say about Matt's product. One thing that drastically improved was the shifting. It is not only easier to shift but it makes shifting smoother. Passengers say my shifting is quite smooth now. If you are technically inclined and ambidexterous about 20 min. If you can't handle a wrench and need to wait for a friend to help hold the bolts one one side while you do the nuts on the other. About 1-1/2 hours. The install isn't hard just time consuming because you don't have a lot of room to work. Especially if you have big hands like me. Thumb to pinky is a 10in span . Tight fit in the little engine bay. You may want to invest in a telescoping magnet to retrieve bolts that you drop on the install. [ 04-29-2003, 12:13 PM: Message edited by: killerm ]

Also, do the install when the engine is cold or as warm as you can take it. Since your hand will be touching or very close to the valve cover, your hand will get burnt.
If you insist on doing the install when the motor is too warm to touch, put a towel over it and cover as much as possible and you'll be just fine. (that's what I did)

Autos get the same effects as do manuals, and possibly more do to the horrible engine mounts used in the autos.

Just one more question ... is there any drilling required or does it just use holes that are already there if so what exactly are we unbolting ? Thanks

No drilling. You unbolt the engine mount (gets rebolted to brace)
Removing a wire clip for wiring harness (not needed)
Utilizing existing bolt in shocktower.
