Toyota's Volta sports car concept may be basis for next Supra By AUTOWEEK Is Toyota's Volta show-stopper the next-gen Supra? Sources tell AutoWeek that Italdesign-Giugiaros Toyota Alessandro Volta hybrid gas-electric sports car, named our Most Significant car at the Geneva motor show (AW, March 15), is even more significant than we could have imagined. Word is the high-performance hybrid has been spotted circling the Toyota test track in Arizona at speeds in excess of 180 mph and that the car is actually a mildly disguised version of a new Supra. While a 400-hp hybrid sports car powertrain remains possible by 2007, we also hear rumors of a wild 500-hp mid-engine V8 Supra that would sell for more than $100,000. Bat-

can't afford it Me neither... it will probably cost somewhere between $160.000 and $200.000 in Denmark if it gets to production...

And it use a mutch gas ass a celica if im not remebering wrong. and its fast its cool and low fuel and toyota quality and my country will not tax the el engien so it will be MUTCH more for the mony than a ferrari to teh same price if they not make hybrid to that i not fhink they going to make befor teh volta is released if it ever coming

Toyota has a hard time selling a $25K sports compact, where is the market for a $100K super car?

i would NEVER buy an NSX in my life. these things are old and not any great looking, way overpriced for a stupid v6 engine. have you sat in an NSX? i gauges look like 1990 honda accord. it has that pic of the car with door lights on, just like my friends accord. the new one looks good, still overpriced. i think cars like that should be about 50,000$ maximum if they want ppl to buy it. you cant compare these cars with ferraris man. if you are comparing them, then ur not respecting ferrari and all other exotic cars. yea the new nsx and the toyota look crazy, but you cant mess with someone whose building exotics for almost 100 years.

Not a fan, but maybe it'd look better in person. Everyone is right, Toyota will lose a pretty penny for producing a car like this at this price. Maybe they're trying to catch the Viper and Ford GT in the 500HP market?

There was a very brief little article in Car & Track (I think that's the name) a month or two ago that showed the new Supra, it looks very much like the Volta but it's a hybrid with 300bhp.

Perhaps sales are down for the Celica because it's some what under powered and over priced and the styling appeals to some and revolts others. The Supra certainly hasn't had any trouble selling in the past.

got to go for a lambo about 200k more but it has the rarity the lamborghini murcielago is around $350,000 however, the new lamborghini gallardo is $150,000 and is being labeled as a 'ferrari killer'. if i had 100,000 to spend on a car...theres NO WAY IN HELL i'd spend it on a toyota. i'd buy new porsche 911 gt3 or buy a used ferrari 360 modena or lamborghini gallardo in a couple of years
