I was talking to this guy last night at a csulb, claiming to know a lot about cars. He was totally pissing me off because when i mentioned i drove a celica, he would stop bad mouthing the celica saying that its slow, unreliable, nothing special.  I seriously wanted to kick his @ss. I thinking to myself, dude have you ever driven a celica. Well, i just wanted to get that of my chest.

1. the celica IS reliable
however,
2. the celica IS slow. the celica has the same engine found in matrixes and corollas. it's an economy car in a sports car body.

when you want to get down to the basics, the celica AS A SPORTS CAR has only a few things that are special 1. they didn't sell very well so you most likely have one out of only a handful of them 2. they have a very sporty, modern look. 3. it has a low center of gravity. outside of that, they really don't cut it as a sports car. it's have back seats. its fwd and not rwd. it has a meager 1.8L 4 cylinder engine that pushes only 180 bhp. don't get me wrong...i love the celica. but thats just been honest about how it stacks up as a sports car, so jus don't be fooled.

the thing about this is. ok. what if he was driving a nice car and someone came up to him and said that his car wasn't all that great. i'm sure he wouldn't want anyone badmouthing the car he drives. c'mon man, give a little respect.

funny thing is - he is more concerned about your car than his car... why would he take the time to think about your car and then discuss it with you - if he really didn't care anyways? common, do you guys also discuss trucks, power boats and Yamaha vs Honda bikes? the only reason he did it was to make you feel smaller than him - bring you down to his level  slow? are you guys racing at the track every day? NEWS FLASH - YOU CAN ONLY GO AS FAST AS THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU!!! Who comes into work LATE every day? I hardly doubt that has anything to do with how much HP the car that person drives

I was just thinking.. if this guy knew so much about cars.. then he should know that with the right mods you can get a Celi pushing 500 ponies... that isnt very slow IMO.

I hardly doubt that has anything to do with how much HP the car that person drives exactly. sure, the celi may be slow compared to cars that have similar specs (e.g. rsx-s) but in the real 9-5 world of work and school how many drivers actually are able to test the limits of 200+ hp and do it safely? remember, there are a lot more normal drivers with high hp vehicles than there are tuners. and the fact that this guy's in cali where the gas prices are unbelievably high, is it logical to brag about a cars that burn up petrol? people always talk down about things without warrant because it boosts their ego.

Celica's are "relatively" slow, depending of course what you compare them to.
Celica's have "proven" reliability according to JD Power Q&A with Celica owners.
Is this the same sort of guy who would say Sunfire's are the worlds most reliable car?

I do realize the celica is not the fastest car on the street, but its still one of the most awesome. I think his idea of a good car is the more hp the better, i guess. >.< well whatever, at least i know we have better judgment, aye? ^^

The celica is pretty damn popular rated most reilable in it's class(consumer report)I've seen almost every age group drive one. just because it's FWD doesn't mean it not a sports car, not all SPORTS cars have to have RWD. Our cars arn't fast but they're real quick, and can out handle 95% of the cars out there(stock), with a modified suspention you can go ahead and raise the percent a little bit. about the 4 cyl thing, well the whole world is shifting to 4 cyl, so gotta live with it.
