Whats the difference between a blower and Turbo/supercharger. I hear only blowers being on older cars with big chevy blocks but is there even a difference?

from what i believed a blower was an external way of pushing air to the engine or through a supercharger but i could be wrong

from what i believed a blower was an external way of pushing air to the engine or through a supercharger but i could be wrong you're right. the CONCEPT is the same, but the way in which they go about it is where the difference lies. a blower is basically a scoop with a built-in fan that forces air into the engine. a Turbo is basically an air compressor powered by a turbine that runs off of your exhaust fumes. because the turbine runs off of your exhaust fumes, friction is increased in the exhaust and this is why you lose initial torque. a supercharger is basically an air compressor run by a belt bolted to your engine. for a quick discussion on how superchargers are different from Turbochargers, this link should help: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question122.htm

the picture is just a roots style there are many styles of superchargers/blowers
in the old school days they're blowers now we jsut say supercharged so we sound important
oh and all superchargers/blowers are run from belts

in the old school days they're blowers now we jsut say supercharged so we sound important
oh and all superchargers/blowers are run from belts yup... blower and S/C is the same thing... there are also centrifugal superchargers, they resemble Turbo's, but still work like a supercharger.
