Nitrous. A lighter flywheel may help with acceleration.

Dan's right... Flywheel would be the next thing I think if you want to stay with NA.. with all those mods though, you coulda had a turbo by now.. If you have $4K I would turbo. Dave Draper makes a kickass GT kit starting with the turbo designed for the 1.8 liter Audie A4 Quattro and custom injen piping, he is taking orders in 2 weeks, the kit will arrive 1 month after that (you will lose your header and your intake, but you will end up with 200whp). If you don't have the $ for a turbo though, I would get a flywheel next, or cosider a port and pollish job (although make sure you go somewhere good because you don't wanna screw that up).

you have the AEM underdrive pulley and a system.. how do you not fry your battery all the time????

you got the wrong car for torque. Best bet would be Forced Induction(aka turbo or Custom Supercharger)

well the first thing you did wrong, that most of us did was the CAI, this is fine if you want a few HP up high, but i takes a way torque downlow. aside from that im gonna say forced induction and perhaps a valve and lifter kit($300) for good torque gain. good luck

you don't lose any.. I have seen actual dyno, the only place an AEM even MATCHES stock torque on the powerband is around 2000RPM and it's brief like only between 2000 and 2100. Everywhere else it's higher.. not sure what he is talking about, I have one and I know I got low end gains in torque not a loss.
Actually the Dyno on the AEM site is closer than people say it is (it really did look like that on my buddy's car).. it's all hype from guys who blew their wads on short rams.
The whole idea of a CAI causing a torque loss is rediculous, cold air has higher volume (that's why warm air rises), more air, more ignition.. end of discussion. [ 05-03-2003, 10:11 PM: Message edited by: FX-MAN ]

Don't they make a different CAI for the Auto? not sure, I have a 5sp but I am pretty sure some of the team celica guys up here have CAI with an auto trans. Not sure, I'll ask around.
Flywheel is sort of but not really a clutch component, it goes between your crank and your clutch pressure plate, if you lighten it, it unlocks some torque that is lost between the engine and the wheels since the crank doesn't have to spin so much weight to turn your gears. It's not adding any more power to your engine, just getting more onto the road. (they say every lb is about 2.5lb -ft of torque across the band, so it's expensive but worth it if you lighten it allot, and can really help with acceleration) It's an expensive install since you have to remove the trans axle the exhaust and the clutch to get at the flywheel (so it's a good time to replace the clutch too, since you have to put the clutch back together anyway a new clutch install will not cost you any labor, if your clutch is more than 2 years old and you can afford a new one I would do the clutch at the same time). A good mechanic will charge about 4 hours of labor.
I am thinking about the fidanza flywheel, but I need to find the weight of the stock flywheel to figure out if the gains are worth the money.. (the install is as expensive as the flywheel itself). [ 05-03-2003, 10:35 PM: Message edited by: FX-MAN ]

You wouldn't be N/A with nitrous. But if you do want to stay in N/A, I reccommend the flywheel. I have never heard of a lifter kit for our cars, if there is ones out, you would be one of the first, if not THE first to have this. I don't know if port and polish will help out with torque. You could look into some serious engine work, like bore the cylinders, replace pistons, rods, etc etc.

Also, how about that motor mount that is going around on NC.org. I'm sure that gives a little low end. Not much, but it all adds up.

GT300 body kit on, getting fitted, doing install myself. pics comin as soon as my kit is here and painted...

Hey man do not be too disapointed with the auto if you decide to go to a strip car. I have notice over time that the automatics do a lot better in the 1/4 mile (consistantly) simply because you can not miss shifts and things of that nature. So any time someone gives you crap about having one just take them out to the strip and show them a thing or two. Once again just my two cents

torque help you pull, or bring your car up to speed so like at a launch or better pick up... thats why most american cars have good starts , because they have good pick up but bad high end... i think... but correct me if im wrong
