Here's the paint and glue I used. The Paint is a Metallic Black from Rustoleum (coincidentally, the same paint I used to do my front emblem). The glue is liquid silicone, and both are available at your local hardware store.

I forgot to mention that I painted the UNDERSIDE (in case you couldn't tell from the pics), as opposed to the topside. The difference is that if you do the bottom, you get the "ribbed" effect, as you can tell. If you paint the top, it looks smooth instead.

If you're thinking of doing this mod, Rob posted an AWESOME step-by-step with tons of pics here:

Tater's inserts would also look awesome (and be much cheaper than the '04 lights). thumbsup

I tried to do this myself, and after getting the headlights out, I realized that they wouldn't fit in my oven! rofl

Oh well, it wasn't all a loss, because I changed out my fog lights. frown

Yes, follow the directions from Rob's post that I gave above ( http://celicagarage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1185 )

Leave the lights in the oven for a full 15 mins, and you won't have to put them back in as many times when prying them apart (the glue gets hard as a rock when it cools down).

TAKE YOUR TIME, and be patient so you don't break anything: there are lots of very small and fragile parts within the headlight housing.

Use 3 LIGHT coats of paint, as opposed to 1 or 2 heavier coats so you won't get any drips or runs. It'll also help to get even coverage, that way.

When you're all done painting and ready to assemble the headlights, heat up the "bottom" half to soften the old glue. Then apply some liquid silicone in the "groove" and place the "top" piece into position. Remember to hurry and put the screws in before the glue hardens again.

And final tip, DON'T START YOUR HOUSE ON FIRE laughsilly I forgot to turn the oven OFF on the first light and nearly burned the towel I had sitting in there.. the first clue was the smoke rofl

Steven, one more tip: don't bother removing the entire front bumper. Just take out a few screws from either side and you can have a friend pull the side of the bumper out while you unscrew the headlight bolt thumbsup

Looks really great, nice work. When I saw the thread title I thought and was hoping this was going to be how to paint the headlight covers to get the TRD eyelid effect.
