I've found that toyota engines respond well to oil changes.

Change your oil OFTEN, 3K-7K depending on the oil type.

Anymore than that, it breaks down and you get problems.

You could have damaged the engine by not changing the oil (if it's like 20K)

i think it may be a combination that involves your oil...but i seriously doubt it's just your oil.

your oil just keeps your engine lubricated, it doesnt limit your engine. (if you don't change your oil, your engine just wears out over time).

my guess would be it's something mechanical.

It kind of sounds like the car just almost completely loses traction or something confused I don't know man, I would get that oil changed, and it it doesn't help take it to Toyota asap.

it doesnt sound like a traction problem.

i'll offer my best guess (although it's still a guess)--you're transmission gears are extremely worn. either that or your clutch plate has problems gripping the gears at higher rpms.

this would be consistent with the 'neutral' feeling. since your rpms still shoot up when you press the gas but your tires aren't moving..the problem is with your transmission. i would think there should be a grinding noise before that though, but i could be wrong.

i would definately think its something with your transmission with your clutch/gears.

^^ actually i'll revise that and say that i don't think it's your gears. i seriously doubt all of your gears would be worn at almost exactly the same rpm spot (3000 rpms).

i'll say clutch.

look over ur short shifter installation. maybe ur something was off(wrong) with ur shifter, and from shaking and pushing it, it just got in place(dont know much about shortshifters)
take it to a shop and have ur clutch changed. how long have you been using ur clutch? have you ever smelled a bad smell from the car when driving? did you buy it with that problem? add transmission fluid if low. dont top it off.

dont get it but that was just that i drived it up to 5000 and 6000 on every gear and it did not happen again.

Any on know some more about this?

I sounds to me like your clutch is slipping. It will not always be as bad, sometimes ok then bad again. I would bet you need the clutch replaced. A nuisance and some money, but not a serious problem. You need to get it checked though because it will only get worse. Your linkage could be aggravating the problem, but I don't think it is the problem. Good Luck

Fuck taking it to a dealer to get it inspected.

Put the car in first at a dead stop and put the e-brake all the way up.

Rev the engine up to about 3k while slipping the clutch intermitently (sp), and see if your car jerks at higher RPM's, or if you burn the clutch easily.

Doesn't have anything to do with the oil, your clutch is just really really bad. I posted a pic of my clutch when I took it out, and it wouldn't hold above 6K RPM's, and it looked toasted. I can't even imagine what yours looks like.

Also, until you get it fixed, don't accelerate hard or burn the clutch. Once you burn it once, you will have close to zero traction on the plate, and the clutch will not be able to hold at any RPM's until it cools down.

Happened to me and I almost shit my pants. Burned it once while driving and the clutch wouldn't engage at any RPM. Had to pull over and let the tranny cool down for a good half hour. Good thing I pulled into the parking lot of a restaurant. smile

get your clutch replaced the linings are already worn. they can no longer grip. replace your clutch, before you catch yourself getting stuck somewhere.

Well so your saying that you rev up but rpms jump high and you feel like your going no where? I had that problem on my celica, for me the problem was my clutch went bad and kept slipping so I would deffinatly change the oil and get your clutch looked at.

change your oil, and get your clutch replaced...if its not engaging the gears properly it could be that the clutch disk is nearly gone, or that you need a new pressure plate...I had an automatic in my last vehicle and it kept slipping before it blew...and no grinding noises...
