Okay, so you all know about the Turbo kit from XS Engineering. I'm thinking that the intercooler is front mounted and that there would be no need to have the hood scoop because cooling the turbine unit would lose energy (the scoop would be hindering the full potential). I plan to purchase a Turbo after the summer. Is there anyone who knows of a different hood?

Eh. the scoop doesn't do anything more than cool let in air to cool off the exaust manifold, or something. Its not really gonna benefit you anyway way or the other. I hope I'm understanding your question correctly Anyways I think there are some aftermarket hoods in the ecelica store.

I agree, plus, all you have too do is put a stopper under the hood so air couldnt get in through the scoop...possibly a plastic sign or such.

with all Turbo's overheating is a big issue, you would want the hoodscoop, the more air in the engine bay the better.

Turbo's run hot, so having a hoodscoop is a good thing.

I had a custom Turbo on my last car, and heat is a big factor...the IMPELLAR blades spin at between 60,000, and 110,000 rpm!!!...which is why they have an oil feed line that runs to them (cooling)... also, with boost (especially Turbo) you are having a bigger explosion in the cumbustion chamber, which builds heat in the cylinder wall and cylinder head (needs to be cooled...may want a bigger hood scoop!!)... Plus heat is what determines a Turbo's lifespan, and how well it works...aside from the intercooler, I had a hood scoop, tranny cooler, OIL COOLER, and fuel cooler, to make sure I got the most out of it PLus, you have a GTS!! which has a tremendous compression ratio already to be strapping a Turbo on...10.5:1, plus boost = thrown rod, or warped cylinder head if you don't cool it properly...I promise, you will probably want a bigger hood scoop, or even the varis cooling hood, if you are going Turbo Hope all this helps

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a Turbo pull air from the scoop? That may be for the Impreza WRX or something.

no, a Turbo is spooled by exhaust gasses, the impellar fan is what is spooled, and it sucks air in through its impellar drive housing, and a tube and filter (like a short ram CAI, with a pump, sucking air - a ton of it - strapped on the end)...kind of like how your radiator fan sucks air through your radiator...the hood scoop is used to keep the engine itself, and engine compartment cooled for longer durability and better Performance.

ah...this is true...the imprezas intercooler is top mounted and not front mounted (I forgot)...which means the scoop is there to help cool the air in the intercooler before it goes into the engine

You should get a hood that has vents like the VIS Invader hood so it the engine can cool itself.

Do the holes in the hood actually lead somewhere? What about rain?

correct me if im wrong (and sorry if it was already stated) but isnt the Intake filter for the Turbo moved to the back of the engine bay, hence the scoop would allow air to it?

Do the holes in the hood actually lead somewhere? What about rain? I meant how the hood looks like it has two holes in the front on each side. I just wanted to know if the holes actually acted as vents, or if they just dipped and closed off.

But you are right though, most but not all cars that come stock with Turbos have scoops. The thing is with Turbos is that you want them to cool down a little before you shut the car off. That's why people with them let the car idle a few minutes before they shut the car off. It extends the life of the Turbo.
