Ok. I love my cai, but my check engine light keeps lighting up. I took it to toyota and they did some stuff with hoses or whatever and the light stayed off for a couple of days. It's back.

I read that it could be because the tube diameter is larger which makes the air flow slower. This causes the engine to think it's getting less air, when its not, causing it to run lean. Bluebomber says it can be fixed by cutting the cai and combining it with the old Intake tube(combine the best of both worlds he says puke)
Yeah I really don't want to cut this 235 dollar piece of aluminum I just bought, but I do want the check engine light to go away. I also want my engine to sense the correct amount of air.

Anyone else with the aem cai get a CEL?
Please Help. So. very. irritating.

the blue bomber mod will definitely solve your problem but I feel you on not wanting to cut the Intake. However, if you reset the ecu and did everything else you were supposed to during the cai install, it may be your only option.

- my advice is to just do the mod and take your time. The process is actually very simple if you have the recommended tools and when you get to the part that you dread, just line up the two pieces of piping side by side and mark where you need to cut. It's pretty hard to mess up... Good luck bro

i had CEL's with my AEM CAI, i cleaned the filter and the MAFS and it hasnt come back in over 2 months.

ok, so I'm guessing you don't agree with my suggestion - spineyes

I should have said earlier to do the mod I talked about as a last resort if nothing else worked for you. Of course, if cleaning the MAFS solves your problem, then it makes sense to do so since it's much less invasive then cutting your Intake. Just follow this guide meticulously and be careful, it's delicate and an expensive piece to replace if something untoward happens...

dude, just uninstall ur CAI and install it again but go slowly, check every step by step. if that still don't work for you, install ur OEM Intake back and drive it and see if the light went off. Remember to unhook ur Neg. battery terminal first though. So far i haven't had any problem with my CHEAP eBay Intake yet. been 2 months since i installed it. I'm satisfy with it. For now. grin

Thanks guys. I just woke up from my after school nap =p
I will clean the sensor and connectors later tonight.
After I disconnect my neg bat terminal, I have confidence that the CEL will disappear. Hopefully, it won't light back up.

It has been raining a lot here. So, maybe the sensor is dirty.

the aem cai is not meant to turn on your CEL...it comes on sometimes but in every case i've seen it's because something wasnt done right.

installed properly, you won't have a problem with your CEL thumbsup

(in other words--don't cut your pipe)

I had a Rod millen motorsport short ram Intake that kept putting the chk engine light on, turns out that it was leaking in the gasket on the manifold so i replaced with an AEM cai and i haven't had a chk light on since it went in

update: still getting a CEL.. i took it to autozone and the code reads 2441. something about a valve being stuck closed? i think its talking about the valve in the stock airbox that i removed... but since its not there anymore... a mechanic at the dealership said it was a vacuum problem and that i should install a check valve on this one hose along with custom making a little vacuum chamber.. any ideas guys?
