I've noticed that the shifter in my car (the new 2002+ base/rod) is more rubbery than the old one, you can move the rod slightly from side to side...

Can this be alleviated with a SS (twm) and those speed source aluminum linkage bushins? frown

Are you talking about when you put the the stick in neutral, you can kind of move it the the left or right, front to back like its almost a little loose?

If so, this probably won't help much with your question, but my TRD SS does that. I think its normal.

I would imagine thought that since the TWM is so much shorter and stiffer that it would, at least, be improved.

no, when the stick is in gear, you can wobble it from side to side.

I think I want to get the TWM SS, it's been since christmas since I had the update done to the tranny, and I don't think its going to break anymore...

where would the best place to buy this be? claremont toyota has it for $135 with free next day air shipping, but that might be wrong? confused

not sure if they have it in stock though, I don't want to pay for it and have to wait 2 months to save $15

the stock shifter assembly sits on rubber mounts, and the TWM comes with the aluminum ones, that stiffens it up a good bit, I really like it

I got mine from Claremont, they had it in stock, but they shipped mine to the wrong person first, so I had to wait twice the shipping time, I didnt get the next day air though

I have a stock shifter, and wondered about the play as well...I spent $30 and put in kumosport direct shift bushings (aluminum), and its really, really firm now...A short shifter will probably do the trick, but I'm not drag racing, and don't really need one

installing those bushings is a ten minute job, keep in mine I've replaced the shift cables on my tranny twice, and taking the shifter housing apart for 3 SS installs. spineyes

Maybe I'll look into a set of those.

I figured it was the rubbery bushings at the base of the stock housing.

There is also some bronze bushings from speedsource, might have to check into them.

Thanks, guys! wave
