Celica Forums General Discussion General We all Made the right decision...bwahaha!

So I was at the local grocery store, and I went thru a copy of road and track's new magazine called "Speed for the sporting motorist"...they had a run of some sport compacts out in the desert, to see who was king of the heap out of the following:

Dodge Srt-4
Ford Focus SVT
Honda Civic SI HFP
MazdaSpeed Protege
Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart
Nissan Nismo Sentra Se-R
Toyota TRD Celica GTS

The Celica Won!! ...and not only that, it was the fastest 0-60 time, and 1/4 mile!!! It won a few other categories as well. I'm at work right now, so I had to run, and didn't have enough money to buy it right then, but I will later on...I'm so damn proud!!!

I have the magazine right infront of me...it was NOT the fastest in either the 1/4 or 0-60. I have no idea what you are smoking...SRT-4 was the fastest.

it had the best lap time...with only a trd exhaust, 18s, trd strut and spring, and action package body kit...basically it beat out cars that had factory Turbos and lsds...not bad but where was our rival the rsx??

the lap time would have been better if they added the trd lsd, header, sways, etc...that would have been an ass whoopin'

^^^ I actually had a loan lined up for a 1998 RSP supra about a month before I bought my celi...I'm 21 and no one would insure me for under 450 a month...so now I have my celi and I love it

I think the SRT should not even be in the same category, but ct is right. where is the RSX S-type? the celica would beat out those cars but why not have the RSX? strange?

oh yeah...where the hell is the RSX-S?

maybe the RSX ran out of it's class and become a 350Z beater...

anywho, maybe there isnt a factory tuned RSX present...and if there are, it will simply beat the crap out of all those cars...including celica imo.

i doubt it will "beat the crap" out of anything. and as far as a 350Z beater...not by a long shot. a 200hp fwd 4-banger compared to a v6 287hp rwd car??? no contest. although mugen and spoon offer more parts and accessories (freakin' honda...lol) it would take quite some modding to out handle a trd'eed celica with all available engine and suspension mods. the celi is definatley not the fastest car...but it's not a slouch either.

another win under the belt of the celica...now to make love to my "baby" tonite

since some celi with great driver can take the Z, and TypeS has a mid 14's in 1/4mile... u do the judge..

and with the same kind of upgrade on the suspention and tires, i doubt a rsx will lose to a celi at corners...

The SRT-4 does not belong in with those cars IMO. However no surprise it can't handle. None of the other cars (to me) are desirable. Especially the laughable ford focus. Just my .02

I agree that it shoudlnt have been there, but I think it was there because these cars are sport compacts (I think...). Anyways, its nice to know the celica is rated better then all of them.

Ok...the 350 Z is not that fast...infact I just read in Sport Compact CAr that they tested a baseline 350Z against the Nismo tuned 350Z...they droped 13k into that car and only gained 13 whp... Which only made it 241whp...Plus it only ran 14.1 in the 1/4. Lucky would whoop that cars ass! And that car costs 49k after all upgrades!!

So, I don't know where you get your #'s. And, the RSX-S is not out of our class. That car CAN'T touch our handling, and now that celica owners actually have a ecu upgrade (power fc) to go head to head against HONDATA...We own the type-S...IMO.

Elec-FuYu is entitled to his opinion. The Celica is a nice car and isn't at the same time. It all depends what one is looking for in a car. Whether it be looks, speed, class or all of the above like some exotic like the Lamborghini =) I still and will get that car one day

celicas own! i cant wait till i have enough money to get one of my own!! i'm kinda dissapointed that no mag. has done any comparison testing between the gts and the rsx type s yet. i think that would be very interesting to see the results, because they are just about equally matched in everything. someone please do this soon!

in acceleration they are about equall, but celica has WAY better handling, the stock suspention on the RSX sucks. and the celica has better braking

No kidding, I'm so sick of people thinking our cars just "Look fast" and that they are slow and for girls. Our cars kick ass and beat the shit out of EVO's on the track and with the proper mods they can take out a Porsche 911 (possibly TT) on the track too.. now that says a lot!

Anyone who has that magazine with the article, do you think you could please scan it for those of us who don't have the mag'? It would be awsome to read the praise.
