the top speed of a stock gts? 135 was as far as I could push mine. that was with a friend in the car, on a windy night, and with a slightly curvy/hilly road(well they felt like hills)
after cai and trd exhaust, new torque allowed 142mph, although I feel I could have easily broken the 145 mark without one of my other friends(190lb) in the car and with more road(almost missed my exit, scary).
got mine between 135-140 stock, couldn't look at the panel after 135 too scary after that I promised never to race like that again! I hate saying never!!! I want more speed!!!
In my Auto(GT at least) I hit 127 going down a long hill on the freeway with a full house in the ride(4 passengers) and my car was COMPLETELY bone stock.
but doesn't every cars have 150mph govern in us. i know the porsche gt3, gt40, and vipers have 150 govern for sure.based on the car and driver magazine
Humm weird.. I go my GTS as fast as 122 mph, i gave up trying cause the road wasn't strait.. to many curves and hills.. I know that I coulded been higher cause my speed was still rising.. slowly but risin!.. i need to find a good strait road that one uses it!.. them I'll see where my car really tops out!
I believe, read, and had stated in the past that a GTS is rev limited to about 135 or 136 stock. With mods maybe more. It may not be safe to push a Celica over 150 MPH. I know for a fact that Audi TT in the early days had instability at high speeds, even though they could reach them and it was a problem if I heard about it. I'm sure a stock Celica is not aerodynamically designed to push near 150 or above without issues of stability or safety.

The Audi initially had problems at high speeds due to spoiler issues. Once the spoiler was raised, stability increased
GTS 225 km/h ~ 139.8 mph (stock) GT 205 km/h ~ 127.4 mph (stock)

Weird, got my GT to 138mph with 1 friend on board, and on camera. Took me a loong straight but i got there.
The instruments are not very precise... the speedometer shows approx. 10% to much and maybe more at high speeds... If you really wants to know how fast the car is, get a GPS og even better get some quality measurement equipment for the job...

when people have gotten about 145.
A lot of those magazines are so awful when it comes to testing out cars, a lot say the GTS does 0-60 in like 7+ seconds, when it's really 6.3.. it's so awful.
