I decided to change all the lights in my AC/Heater controls and the 12V cigarette lighter hole. Everything was going fine until I tried to change the cigarette lighter one. All the lights went out even the radio's. At night when the headlights are on the radio is all dark. I checked all fuses, they were all fine. I dont know what went wrong. Any suggestions??

double-check the fuses... most commonly a blown fuse is the culprit

It's not.

Join the fucked up car club!

Diablo and I are already members, and we are accepting more members daily!

Bottom line is, it's not a fuse. If it were, then the radio etc, would not work at all. Diablo thought it was a relay due to the fact that the only times the lights wouldn't work was when the headlights came on at night.
He got a new tail relay, and still nothing.

No one knows what causes it or how to fix it. At least no one online.

Probably have to take it into the dealership to get it fixed, but that may not be worth it considering how much it may cost.

man as you know that does really suck, you could always just bite the bullet and take it in to see what's wrong (hey you guys could even just take in one car find out what's wrong and how it was fixed, and just split the bill) [/color]

hey i figured it out, well me and a friend. its the connection to the cigarette lighter. if you unplug it and use a volt meter on the connecters there are 3 positive charges and one negative. you need to get one of the positives to tap the negative. send a reply if you dun get wut i am sayin and i will post next time with pictures. but my lights work now.

if this works, I will forever be in your debt!

I've spent 6-8 months diagnosing this problem, bought new control boards, fuses, relays...spent like $200

I knew it had to be a $.50 fix frown

Diablo, "tap" the wires with each other using that clip. U can get it at radioshack or pepboys. I think radioshack is a bit cheaper for the same clips.

So the two white wires get connected to eachother? It looks like there is a bundle of wires there in the second picture, so a little clarification would be appreciated.

I'm just gonna cut a spare piece of wire and attach it to both of them.

Did you use the clips? sometimes they might be too big and the splicer inside the clip did not splice the wires. If you use the clip you can take it apart and check the wires to see if there is a tiny cut (not completely cut)in each wire. if not you might wanna cut just the plastic (not the whole wire) to expose a LITTLE of the copper inside of each wire. then place the clip back on where the wires are exposed.

Yea, I checked that first off. I might have done what the other guy did, and crack my circuit board. I can live with it. Good thing the engine revs up when you put on the air... smile

there is one more thing you can check. when you take off the center console and look at your climate control switchs, in the middle is where the AC and Rear Defrost lights are. there is a lite blue "computer cable" looking wire. you might have broken off one of the wires attatched to the board. you have to carefully look at it because you dont want to break any other ones off.

I just ran into this problem last night, as well as the Cracked Ac controller.

I will give the jumper, or "tapper" a shot tonight.

Also, If anyone is still interested, I could possibly take some pics of how I soldered on 3 jumper wires to make the AC light come on when you push the button, and also the illumination lights for the AC controller lighting.

I noticed the circut board is pretty fragile and it cracks right in the center at the top. if you pull that board forward and look at the back, you can bend it slightly and see where it cracked, breaking contact on the 3 upper circuts.

I've got the right hand side of my A/C lights out and after replacing the lot for blue LEDs thinking it was possibly just the bulbs that had died, the problem remains. So basically the right side of the A/C unit and also the cigarette lighter are functioning but not illuminating. Would this fix possibly work for my issue? An old thread I know but hopefully someone will pick this comment up.. Cheers.
