Hey guys, hows everyone doing. I just got a 2001 silver Celica GT a few weeks ago and I have a question. The guy who had it before messed around with the Intake a little bit. He put in a shitty Intake which I'll take a picture of later and post it tomorrow. Anyways, its a cone type air filter, and he took out the stock Box filter. The only thing is, he sanded down or grinded down or something, the pipe that went to the Box and now goes to the cone, so now I want to replace it because it's garbage, but that means I have to replace the whole Intake system. I talked to a friend of mine and he said that cold air Intakes cost too much and there is too much trouble with them, somthing about having to cut it and install a water filter or something like that because the cold air Intake comes towards the bottom of the car. But yea, so if i don't want a cold air Intake or at leats he said I shouldn't get it, then what should i get? I really have no idea, so any ideas or anything like that would be nice. I'll take some pictures tomorrow and post em up. Well thanks everyone

the previous owner of ur celica did a cheap quality short ram.
wut ur friend is saying about cai(cold air Intake) is basically hydrolocking. cai goes all the way down and the filter will be low behind ur bumper/near ur fender, tire side.
seeing where you live, there is a VERRRRRY little chance that ur car will hydrolock(ur filter sinks in a pile of water and water goes in engine and messes it up). the Intake has to submerge completely in a pile. a water splash wont do nothing.
if you still worried about it, then you should get urself a short ram, a slight less hp gain but safe. short ram will look something like the one that you currently have, but the pipe wont be the stock plastic air box pipe.

pesonally i'm a fan of the injen sri (shortram Intake). it's more show quality, only produces about 1 less whp, and hydrolock is eliminated.

however, cai's 'hydrolocking' is very rare. you pretty much have to submerge your whole filter in water for it hydrolock meaning you basically have to go through floodwaters or really deep puddles.

what your friend speaks of is a 'bypass valve'. this is used in cai's to prevent hydrolocking and it's very effective if that's what your worried about.

if you plan on modding your cars exhaust system (exhaust, header) then i would go with a cai because the potential gains with a cai are greater than with a shortram.
