just wondering, how can we compete with the new srt-4, anybody got any ideas, installing a Turbo? srt4 is about like 220-230hp stock, what would be the best way besides nos, to counter it. eventhough celica engines are 1.8L and the srt-4 is 2.4L would adding a Turbo keep up with it even though they have differnt L engines.

TRD needs to keep up with the competion. mopar has plenty of engine upgrades to support the srt4, what about trd! get with the program man yur supercharger doesnt fit, retards

i wouldn't say that a Turbo celica would wax it, i've seen teh new stock srt4 run a 13.8, so it would be tough to wax
EDIT** the new srt4 has the stock LSD

strait line acceleration mod for mod the SRT-4 will kill the celica. ex. celica gets a Turbo, the SRT-4 gets a mopar stage 2 Turbo upgrade...end result...SRT-4 still kills in the strait line. but thats all the srt-4 will win in. handling, braking, and looks the celica wins in, plus the GTS has 6speed gearbox

was....5speed with i/h/e
15.41 @ 89.30mph 2.282 60'

is....04 srt4 stock

I can take um stock but any kinda mods w/ decent driver and theres not much hope for the celica. best I've seen was a 12.5 w/ fully built motor, 50 shot, Turbo. from a celica.

there are a lot of srt's in 11's wink

Sure the STR4 has straight line power, but what's the point if it can't turn worth jack. The Celica can easily beat the crap out of the SRT4 in a road course.

Get a Power FC and a LSD.

9/10 drivers of an SRT-4 are going to rev it to reline and dump the clutch, you can toast them

O.K. the SRT-4 may be faster accelerating (as is the Mustang GT, Z28, etc.) BUT any fool can push down on a gas pedal! Jam on some corners and see if they can follow you. I'd rather beat someone with skill than just because my motor is bigger. They can out accelerate a Celica - they could also beat up a 5 year old - so what?

yeah i saw that, my friend has an SRT-4 with it fully hooked up, hes got about 25,000 put into it, he runs low 11s. my friends GT4 w/ Turbo runs mid 10's and beat his srt-4... so just do the comparison. Old Celicas w/ Turbo and AWD can take the SRT4 easy wink lol
but celicas have dohc over the srt4, so race an srt4 in a sprint, the celica will win. once the celica get's to 5th gear, we'll be chillin' in the high speeds while the SRT4 is waiting to shift out of 4th and we'll be goin' to 6th, the srt4 has no competition in the top-end.

Race it from a roll. If a stock GTS can beat an Evo MR from a high speed roll, and a GT can beat a WRX from a roll, a modded Celica vs an SRT-4 should be no problem.

Well, that's easy to fix on an SRT4... Keep in mind, it's based off of the neon... Before the latest celicas came along, and neons were underpowered, they used to dominate the autocross course, suspension mods are plentiful for neons, and with some tewaking, they handle pretty damn good.

Before the SRT4, there was a track-package for the neon from the factory (called the neon ACR)
it was a barebones neon, no stereo, no AC, and a ton of suspension tuning and the ever-popular twincam under the bulged hood. they made this car for solo2 peeps, they could buy one from the dealership and go racing the same day, Mopar also offered nice contingency money for those that ran the neon, because of this, the neon became a popular auto-x car, and still is to this day.

While handling and braking are not the SRT-4's strong suit, and not even close to the celica in those terms, they are easy to find suspension bits for, and when brougt up to speed suspension and brake-wise, they are a close match for our cars...

Of course, if you mod the suspension on the celica, this is a moot point as well. sort of a polar opposite to the engine and drivetrain situation.

in the end it all depends on the drivers, and how well the cars are set up anyways.

That's why they say "there's no replacement for displacement"...in a drag race...if both engines are treated alike...a 2.4L turbo should and would spank a 1.8L turbo..

Sadly the 2k Celica isn't built for drag, but more of a NA track car, so you guys shouldn't expect too much out it as far as drag racing goes.
The SRT4 is nice car, especially when you consider its base on a neon.

^^ i grudgingly agree. I love my celica though, and i perfer hearing "oh SHIIIIIIIT!!!" from my passenger when i cut a corner rollin around 60 without barking a tire. Driving corners is way more fun than goin in a straight line IMO
