kind of new with my 2000 celica GTS, but have just realized that my rev limiter only says up to 8, while other 2000 GTS's go up to 9 and say 9. starting to think that my car is a GT because they all only go up to 8. Feels and is fast like a GTS, and when looked up on carfax, it said GTS. Im confused. There is not one 2000 GTS that I have found that only revs to 8 like mine. Someone please help me out. probably a dumb question, but tired for searching for an answer. Am I missing something here wtf

are you looking at just where redline begins? or the whole tacometer.

in an '00 gts the redline begins about about 8k rpms (7.8) but the tacometer shows up to 9k rpms.

Look at your engine bay and if you still have the engine cover it will either say VVT-i or VVTL-i, if you have VVTL-i then its a GTS and if you have VVT-i you have a GT...also if you speedometer goes up to 160 then its GTS and if it goes to 140 then its GT, and im betting you have a GTS because if you entered your vin # to carfax that SHOULD be right... thumbsup

I think someone put in a gt gauge to show lower mileage. Since you ran the carfax does the mileage match up?

if the previous owner did this for showing lower miles, then damn. why would you want that? the cop is checking ur speed from outside, or else if someone did this to the driver on purpose so they drive faster?
it might be engine swap, but it wouldnt say gts on it. to find out more, check the brakes. where did you get this car from man? if its manual how many gears does it have or else if its stick does it have the sportshifter?
where did you get the car from? thats very important question

Holy crap... that's horrible.

If that car was a GTS to start, I'm pretty sure they broke the law by replacing the gauges (since the odometer prolly was reset). If it was a GT to start, you just bought a car with an engine swap.

Go back to whoever sold it to you and raise hell until you find out why there is a GT gauge cluster in your "GTS".

well do you ahve rear discs if so its a gts and wrong gauges i would claim fraud and get a new one.

if it has rear drums then you have one with a swap but the gauges won'tw ork and yoru speedo is prolly off. do you have lift at 6k?

also is it a 6 spd/

Ok, sorry guys for being away for so long. Had to do a lot today. It has 6 gears manual, and for the speed on the car. when Im on the highway on my gauge I am doing 65 but really doing 60 from what radars say. the car came with stock rims but low profile tires. I baught the car used from a Toyota dealership. but just now realized that it had a different gauge. Also if I took it back wouldnt it be to late since now they would prbably think I did it.

take it back and raise hell and threaten to report it to someone higher that they gave you a faulty car! and you will report odometer fraud if they dont do something about it, also its def a gts cause the gts speedo is scrunched up more in terms of spacing than the gt thats why it reads 65 instead of 60

Take the car back and threaten to report them for mileage fraud, and I promise you they'll give you a new gauge cluster.

If I were you though, I'd find an autofax(?) report on the car. I bet it has WAY more miles than they told you. If that is the case, screw threatening them, find a lawyer.

Cant really do much since in two days Im leaving to Bahrain( In the NAVY ). I would have to prove it and a whole lot of bullshit and people to talk to just to get a damn new gauge cluster. probably wont show my original miles anyways. I just went to my carfax information on the car and it said there were no inconsistent odometer readings. Also showed me all the readings and didnt look off. I can get lift at 6. Thanks everyone for your help. wink, Now im not so confused on my car. Also one more quick question, is it the 2000 model GTS's that are the faster ones than the ones after it. wtf because the 2000 have a longer redline, or something like that. fill me in. saw it somewhere cant remember.

the 2000,2001,2003,and 2004 all rev the same, the 2002 model GTS revs smaller because of the rev limiter, the 2000 celi has smaller shift gates than the other models
