I don't think Lotus even makes engines. Every Lotus I've ever seen has an engine that was built by someone else.

But yeah... that is one sick ride.

Yes Lotus picked the VVTLI engine and tranny for the elise
WHICH MEANS MORE MODS FOR GTS OWNERS IN THE FUTURE (Rumor is Cams)!!!!
Lotus said they wanted a proven reliable ???? engine .
But lotus mods may be to expensive for most celly owners

yeah, unless you REALLY wanna be different you can instead get the sti, evo 8, rx8, fairlady, etc... and still have a fair amount of money for mods. heck, just keep the celi and go crazy with fi, full suspension and appearances thumbsup

the new elise/exige is rated by many experts to be the best handling car of all time.

thats what crazy weight savings and a mid-engine setupd of perfect 50/50 weight distribution will do to you thumbsup

The way I understood it, Yamaha helped to DEVELOP the engine, but that it is made by Toyota. I may have misunderstood tho...

STi and Evo could match the Elise in a striaght line, if you toss that saved money into mods. It'll still never touch it in handling... Lotus is crazy with their cars handling.

RX8 is slower than a Celica. rofl

look i know lotus rediesigned the Intake manifold and did some ignition remapping.

its still a foru cylinder and a dual exhaust will not help in Performance.

regardless of what you do to the engine is is still a four cylinder and the laws of physics stil replies. teh dual exhaust is for looks.

its in an msn article too if anyone wants to read up on it more.. for more info and pictures check out the article

"The Elise is a hard-core driver's car as close to a race car as you can buy for the street but still a car you can drive and enjoy every day."

[Linked Image from fp.images.autos.msn.com]
The U.S. version of the Lotus Elise is powered by a 190-horsepower version of the Toyota 2ZZ engine with a 6-speed transmission for proven powertrain reliability

[Linked Image from fp.images.autos.msn.com]
Constructed using aluminum alloy extrusions and aerospace bonding techniques, the chassis weighs a mere 150 pounds.

Color choices range from standard Ardent Red and Saffron Yellow to "lifestyle colors" Krypton Green and Chrome Orange.

what i have been told is the reason they use the gts engine is because of the emission problems they had with their engine in america..i think out of the states they use their own engine...
but im too lazy to google this...so i could be wrong, its what i was told by someone who said he loved elise's

Exactly, it's also in the Matrix XR-S.. but they might put it in the Corolla..??? Ew no way, not unless they add a new two door sporty model..bring back the AE86 momentum the car once had, except it will be FWD instead of RWD.

well your half right

the old elise used a rover engine the same people who made the land rover.not lotus

also the reason they went with the celica engine was for teh high rev nature.

they never put a powerful engine in it the old engine only had about 119 horsepower in it.
