Well, I installed my new wheels a week ago by myself. Anyways, driving home today on the highway going 80, I start to notice a faint hum coming from the right side of the car. It was more distinct than wheel noise, so I knew that something was wrong. About 5 miles down the way (still on the highway) the hum turns into a grumble, which is then accompanied by squeaking. I pull over onto the shoulder of the highway and notice that I'm missing two lugs, one on the front passenger side wheel, and one on the rear passenger wheel. I don't have anything with me to tighten the rest of them because the factory lug nut wrench won't fit into the holes on my wheels, and the impact wrench I have is about 10 miles away at home. Anyways to make a long story short, I get home, and both wheels are on the verge of falling off, the car is making all types of noises on the passenger side of the car when it moves. Go out and buy two lugs to replace the ones that fell off and most likely struck someone's car, and buy a torque wrench to torque all of my lugs down. The wrench came with an adapter to fit a 3/8 ratchet because that's the only type of socket that I have that will fit my lugs. I have one more wheel to tighten, and the damn adapter snaps off inside of the socket. Quality Autozone product for ya. It snapped off at like 80 pounds (I know that they are supposed to be torqued at like 70 something, but they should be able to handle it) and it's a 140 lb torque wrench. Oh well, I guess I'll have to drive my mom's RSX until Friday when I can get a new adapter.

What's with people not tightening their lugs? I think Norway or someone had the same thing happen.

What's with people not tightening their lugs? I think Norway or someone had the same thing happen. I tightened mine with an impact wrench that puts out 75lbs of torque. I even used it with the max PSI rating, and on the maximum setting. Lesson learned.

DAMn, I should check mine too. Whenever im driving on the freeway (at night, not much traffic) My car tends to pull from side to side whenever there is a parallel crack or gap, cause they work on the freeways alot, annoying,...anyways, I have Pirelly z-rated 17" tires, and there's plenty of thread in them. Hmm. Maybe I just need an alignment or something.

Good to know though, cause I'll do that with the torque wrench. Thanks.

I'm just lucky that I made it home without a wheel falling off. That would have sucked major balls.

When you install BRAND NEW RIMS you are supposed to torque them when you first install, and then recheck and retighten after 25 miles, and again after 100. At least thats what the tire place told me when I first got my rims. After that you don't have to worry as much when you take them off and re-install, its just the first time is the most likely time for the lugs to back off. Plus I need a special wrench for my lugs. Its a security thing.

lol i have a good story for you guys.. when i was like 16 i bought a honda crx and being your typical 16 year old honda driver i hit a curb... a few days later i noticed on my rim that a lug nut was missing so i replaced it. within a week two more were missing, here i thought someone was trying to steal my rims. i replace them again. now im driving home about 3 days later and i start to hear a grinding sound, the car starts shaking really hard and then pop! i lose control of the car and slide off the road on to the shoulder. i get out and im like wtf!? here i only have one lug nut left on the wheel and one of the other studs were snapped off. to shorten the rest of the story, it turned out that i bent the hub asem (when i hit the curb) and driving on the road was stripping the lug nuts right off the studs. i should have noticed because my wheel was sitting like \\ instead of ||. fun times...
