You can get some tickets thrown out due to errors, but it's just your first name. If he spelt your last name wrong, wrong address, wrong car make/model, then you might have a chance.

I got one ticket thrown out because he spelt my last name wrong.

Guess it pays off to have a last name like mine...Meurer

Even though I'll hopefully change it soon.

make a court date, postpone it and then attend court

chances are that the cop will forget what happened and will not be able to contest against you in court so he won't show up.

i say pay the fine. it cant be that bad. i was caught doing 115 in a 65 and was slammed with a 400 dollar ticket and 1 point on the record.

hate to sound like an asshole but sometimes getting caught is for your own good.

If you are going to go the way of paying the fine, then get a lawyer to fix it for like $50. No points on your license and your insurance rates won't increase because they will amend it to a non-moving violation.

have you done this??? wont getting the lawyer by pretty expensive? by the way there are no points for this ticket so is it really worth it? the ticket is for $165

I've done this many times.

They have those traffic law lawyers that you can call and they cost like $99 dollars to fix. Rip off.

You could ask pretty much any lawyer that you may already know and they will take care of it for like 20-50 dollars.

Or, if it is your first offense, you can get the number of the county's prosecuting attorney, and tell him your situation and be remorseful about the whole situation, and you could get it bumped down to a non-moving violation that way.

Either way, your best bet would be to get it fixed. If you don't know any lawyers, ask around and ask some friends if who they get their tickets fixed through, and if anyone knows of any lawyers that could help you for cheap. Better yet, ask if they are related to a lawyer. Most lawyers will charge a first time fee of like $30, and then after that, charge $50.

Even if you won't get any points on your license, if you don't get it fixed then your insurance company might and most likely will find out about the offense, and your rates will increase. Maybe not by that much, but in the long run, you would have been better off getting it fixed.

And remember, all the attorney has to do is place a call to the prosecutor's office and plea bargain to get it knocked down to a non-moving violation. It's not like they go to court or anything. You are pretty much just paying for them to make a phone call for a ticket this minor.

Hell, if you call the prosecutor like I mentioned above, and offer to go to a safe driver seminar for like a whole day, he will most likely amend your ticket, and it won't even cost that much either.

My friend got a ticket for an 80 in a 60 and got his aunt (a lawyer) to fix it for him. He had to spend a Saturday with a bunch of drunks watching safe driving movies and doing shit like that, but he bumped his fine down from over $200 to $35! All because he went to one of those safe driving classes.

Take your lumps, pay your fine. You did it right?? No one else made you speed. I speed a lot but if I'm nailed its my own fault.

I got caught doing 70 in a 25 (very stupid) and all I had to do was go to court, talk to the DA, and they just gave me a $188 fine, no points on license, nothing on my record. I guess I was lucky. You might want to try talking to the DA directly and explain/negotiate your situation and you could probably get it knocked down pretty easily.
