The Supra was made off of the celica. Hense Celica Supra. Kind of like Camry Solara. Or M3. Its the sportier, if you will, version of it. Notice how the last gen celicas slightly resemble a Supra's bodystyle as well.
As VSGTS14 said.. back in like the early 80's (maybe late 70's?) Came the Celica-Supra, and later they parted their own ways, but the Supra title originated as part of the Celica.. it's just that the Supra became a big bad ass sports car that everyone wants.

I actually almost bought a celica supra...a guy near me had i think an 82? not sure...it was awhile back.. I test drove it...i hate the old interior looks that most cars have...but that car hauls. i smoked an older corvette with no problem.
