maybe its a safety mechanism, but the car wont go above 3000 RPM .
when it passes, it trips and comes right back below 3000 RPM??

what could this be?

I think we need more information to be able to help you out. What year is your car? When did this start occuring? Was it in the middle of driving or after a start? What type of fuel are you putting into your car? Do you have any mods?

damn that sucks but give us more info so we can help might be ur spark plugs if you changed them ur self and didn't calabrate the correctly

No Mods. Stright 2000 GT. Regular fuel.

Just changed plugs, used Denso Iridiums a month ago at 99K miles.

I first cleaned the throttle body, and the idling problem got better (less frequent hesitation) No other problems.

To eliminate the bad idling, I cleaned throttle body again (with the GUNK brand throttle body cleaner, didnt let any of that seep into the manifold, put a cloth) and MAF sensor using this site as the guide. This fixed the car idling/ dying problem.

Two new things occur immedeatly after I cleaned this.
-NO hesitation, at low RPM (below 700). but now I can feel shakes really bad misfire[/color] , the car wants to pull at Idle and shakes a lot[/color] .

-While accelerating the car trips/jerks at 3000 RPM and forces the RPM drops to 2800[/color] . Like sensor or somethign is refusing to let it go above.



I checked engine codes[/color] , I got multipile Misfire (P0300, I think) and MAF malfunction.

correction:- its a backfire.

i was looking at what else i may have done.

I changed the air filter, in the process, i chipped a corner of the airbox. do you think this might cause it?

while cleaning the MAF sensor, i also spryed some Intake cleaner into the hole right above the MAF sensor, didnt realize there might have been any circuitry!

this stuff is wreckingm y brain, i am buying another airbox from one of the guys in here.

maybe be a new MAF, how much do you think that would cost?

mafs cost about $300 I think

do you think i scre*ed it up, when i sprayed the fluid towards the minature hole on the upper end? just below the pins??

something isnt kosher on the inside.

Its either a bad MAFS or its not plugged in or there is a problem with the plug or contacts itself. The car will run without the MAFS plugged in but it wont go over 3000 rpm...I know because I forgot to plug it back in once and it did exactly what you are describing. A new MAFS should be between $100-$150...when I bought a new one I got a "friend" price at my dealer and it was just under $100...I dont think he knocked $200 off the price so I dont think its anywhere near $300. Let us know how it turns out.

I think your O2 sensor could be bad? When mine went bad it ran like there was water in the gas. Not as bad as you describe, but bad.

sounds like the maf sensor. should be like 130-150 dollars from toyota. you did put the correct type of spark plugs in when you changed them? if so, then should be the maf sensor.
