Hey guys I just went to a muffler shop, had them cut out my resonator and put in a straight pipe. I have a TRD exhaust already. I think it was Steven that had his removed with a TSRM. It sounds great with the TRD. It keeps the same deep tone, it's just louder. Much louder. If you don't want your car to be too loud, then don't do it. It's not crazy loud, the ride is still kinda quiet at cruising speeds, but there is a constant buzzing from the exhaust. Accelerations sound really deep and the engine growls. I love when I start it up (especially cold, makes it louder). The engine roars to life. Gas pedal seems more responsive as well. Anyway, I give this $40 mod a thumbs up.

after. has anyone done a amss downpipe+trd exhaust combo? id like to see a review on this. its basically the same thing but with a high flow cat instead of the stock one. you said "constant buzzing." buzz in my book is a bad thing.. my trd stock has a little buzz, i wouldnt want more..

The resonator is after the cat. It's the thing with 2 hangers on it. That's something I failed to mention, the shop made custom hangers for me.
By "buzzing" I mean the constant rumble of the exhaust can be heard while cruising. It's much louder when you accelerate but when your speed levels off, you can still hear your exhaust slightly.
To some it's a bad thing, especially if you take long drives. I don't mind it, I like loud exhaust.
Some people were worried that it would sound horrible without the resonator. I like it. It's not too ricey, but that's all objective to my opinion. Everyone's different. [ 05-25-2003, 11:10 PM: Message edited by: Kyle-Cel'02 ]

Congrats.
About the Downpipe, our stock dp is good already. If you have been around for a while, you will find that you do not here good things about AMSS products. But if you want to try it, then go for it.
Kyle, what size pipe did you get to remove it. Did they just put one in place of it, or did they start behind the cat and go as close to the muffler as possible? [ 05-26-2003, 05:08 PM: Message edited by: Grand-Touring-Dan ]

hey can anybody tell me if removing resonator after you install the axleback system is more expensive vs. cutting it out before hand. Basically my problem is that I'd like to install Evo with cutout muffler but I have no idea how loud it will be. It might be good enough or might not be loud enough but I don't want to chop up the pipe just to find out later that's it's too loud.

get the axle back installed first and if you want it louder and faster get your resonator chopped off. keep it for the future

I also heard a debate, however, that if you remove too much shit from your exhaust system you might risk losing power due to too little backpressure. What do you think?!

If you have less restriction in your exhaust then of course you might loose some back pressure. I don't really concern myself with that because my GTS is fast and lift SCREAMS. I could care less about low-end torque. It's not like I'm towing a boat or something.

Huh! That's funny. I have a gts and I just got molested off the line by an SUV and a minivan. 180 at the crank is not good enough anymore. I agree it's a fast car but nowadays even Timmy from Southpark gets a fast wheelchair.

Yea it is funny because I don't modify my car to perform better at street races. If you got beat by those types of vehicles then you just weren't launching correctly.

I know I was making a joke about American society where 300 horses is not so hot anymore. However, I saw that you commented on that Y- thingy in a different forum. You think that's a good gadget or a waste of money?!

Yea it's a great product!
Would I ever install it on my car? Probably not because I don't need a dump like that.

what does it exactly do! from what I understood it just dumps the exhaust right out of the pipe after the cat or anywhere else you put it for that matter. But I'm guessing it would sound pretty loud if it's open since it bypasses all of the mufflers. So you would need it for racing pretty much, since it's illegal in Cali.

hey kyle, i was thinking about doing the same a while back but i'm happy with the torque that starts at around 3k rpm, did you notice a significant loss in low end torque? where were the gains?

no because i launch the car and i'm pretty much NEVER below 3-4. Other than that, how long does it take the car to get above 4-6? Not very long at all. Once I get going, I keep the car above 6000 RPMs.

less backpreasure "always" equal more power!one of the biggest and most misunderstood term when it comes to exhausts is "backpreasure" the reason why motors make less power when a bigger pipe is used is because the gases slow down and has less of the scavengin effect which infact creates more backpreasure!it is always good to keep the gases flowing fast! there is a compromise between the size pipe not to cause restriction and still not be too big to cause a preasure drop and reduce the flow of the gases.its a very complex subject which is too long for me to get into.
HYBRID:resulting from the combination of two or more mechanically dissimilar origins! "...... code":every man is a shadow, let him be treated as such, until proven otherwise by a show of character or code!

Am I right on this one???? yeah...its basically like running strait pipes and your normal exhaust at the same time...you just conrtoll if you want to run strait pipes or the exhaust...and it's loud. Try unbolting your exhaust, you'll see.
