i'm planning to change my oil this weekend but don't know what brand of oil or oil filter and air filter to use. Can you guys give me some suggestion?? what's a good sythetic oil brand name?? i saw the Redline 1quart for $7.89 at Advanced Autopart today..too expensive..oh yeah i also want to change the tranmission fluid, i think it's the 75W90 or something like that..i don't remember..i tried to search for it but couldn't find anything..
thanks

changing the oil once a week is pointless. changing full synthetic at anything less than 5K is pointless. I changed it at 3K, and it came out the same color as when it went in. 5-7K miles and Molbil 1 with a K&N filter (anti-drain back valve )

I use Castrol GTX with either Fram or Toyota OEM filters, and I agree with the above posts not all oils are created equal.
Go ahead and use Quaker State, then let us know when your rebuilding your engine because your piston rings are shot.

If your going to change your transmission fluid and I take it you drive a stick go with Redline's MT 90. It costs more, yet is an improvement over Toyota's fluid and you won't have to change it for a while or never depending how you drive. I have 3 full quarts left over, but I think you are a little too far from my secret location.

On your Oil question, I use 4.25q hits full on the nose. 4.5 would should be fine, 5 is to much IMO.

synthetic oil is better for sure, but for the money you pay vs. how much you gain is a question. Remember, you still need the same oil change interval. (mentioned in owner's manual) I have heard people said they only use regular engine oil for 200/300K miles without problem. I am in California; I use whatever engine oil which is on sale with the correct SAE and API rating. It is only about 90 cents per q and I change it every 3000 miles. (same thing on filter) I do use synthetic trans oil (Redline MT-90), because that will stay in for a couple years so it is good for the money; and I do feel the difference. If you don't care about the money or living in very cold or hot area, synthetic oil is good for you.

Fram filters are crap.
Look on the back of the oil filter box, and it should have a percentage rating. The higher the percentage, the better. I believe Mobil 1 is one of the highest coming in at 97%.
The percentage tells you what percent of particles (forgot which size particles) got trapped in the filter after 2 passes I believe.
