ok well i have a month before i get veilside or so they say. but i have this FFGT hood and i was wondering how i could hook up ram air to make it functional. I have a lot of time on my hands now that school is ending. call me an idiot but i have no idea how ram air exactly works. i know it somehow goes to the Intake. but do i put the air duct running over the whole Intake or do i point it at it, Or am i looking at this the comepletely wrong way? Also can I do this with the AEM CAI or do i need to buy something else?
Ram air is simply air being forced into the Intake by a direct port to outside air. Usually an opening in the hood or nose with a duct going right to the air filter. The best designs are straight ducts because this takes the most advantage of the "ram" effect.
IMO it would be a better design to run a custom tube to the air filter from the upper nose opening of the celica. Several people have done this but I have not heard of any major gains.
only place it would really help is high speeds i would say jsut stay with the cai thoguh i have been toying with the notion of welding some ducting unfer factory food
hey thats a 20 minute phone call "if i have seen farther it is by standing on the shoulders of giants" derek: do you know that non dairy cream is flamable Jennie: ...derek..what did you do

ditto.
and the gains won't be a whole lot--but better than a cai. just, without a lot of pressure, theres only so much force that 'ram air' can push into the Intake.
So if i got a CAI and got a duct to point at it...theoretically i will get minimal gains on top of having the CAI? I know that ram air won't give my car 10+ hp or anything. just 2-3 on top of the CAI would be cool. if not anything

well...you probably wouldnt get any gains (it would be extremely minimal) because of the way sri and cai filters are. the filters will basically 'block' air from being forced into it too quickly if only a 'windpipe' is directed to it.
you would need to make the windpipe in such a way that it attaches to the filter where no air can escape to take advantage of ram-air (which is why many ram-air filters are flat and rest along all edges of the ram-air).
if air isnt allowed to escape, then your filter would be forced to take the extra air and you would experience some gains (it would still be slight anyway..maybe 1-3 whp gain)
