The bad thing about HOSING DOWN your engine is that you may be left with water spots all over the place if you do not followup with a wipe-down

Basically, the only thing that you should be concerned about getting water into under your hood is your Intake/air-filter.

Although the following items are already waterproof, you should check the tightness of the oil filler cap, the power steering filler cap, windshield washer fluid cap, oil dip stick, battery filler caps and all other engine compartment opening caps.

everything else should be fine... there really isn't much under your hood that isn't already water proof.

you can use the hose and don't have to remove anything..just make sure you dry it or it's not going to look any different, if not worse.

I hosed mine down twice - once after a degreaser and a second time after an engine detailer...

also, I read that you should cover the alternator...

Make sure that when you do it, the engine is NOT hot. Adding cold water to a hot engine will cause a sudden temperature change which could cause cracking, not only on metal, but on other parts in the engine bay.
